jdotmi: (The Third Flower is Green)
Eagerly awaiting the new season of True Blood. Got season 1 (twice, first copy had two disk 5's and no disk 3's) and have been enjoying it far too much. Especially with enhanced viewing. Also been re-reading the first four books. Need to get the rest since they are introducing characters in season 2 that don't appear in the books until book 5 and later.

Been watching a lot of Dollhouse on iTunes. Probably more than is healthy. I even made a small number of icons from "Man on the Street". Because, ya know, I post oh so much...

Been playing City of Heroes and Civilization IV: Colonization and World of Warcraft. It's really hard to stay in one game for longer than 30 minutes at a time right now, though. -_- My ability to focus has gone pfffffzt!

Netflix is evil. In a good way. The Golden Compass was a good movie and they need to make the sequel now. Currently getting disks of Birds of Prey, which was cheesy and somewhat over the top but was still a pretty decent show.

Just finished a huge project at work and am now waiting to launch said project and train people on it. Time to get back to work

So, I took a lot of pictures in City of Heroes. Just character shots that I mostly used to give portraits to my characters on the City Info Tracker, but here they are with some description of who the characters are.

LJ-cut to save your friends list. And your sanity. )

Hi, my name is [livejournal.com profile] jdotmi and I may have a slight City of Heroes/Villains addiction.

Hi, Pete!

5th Anniversary of the game is coming up, oh, pretty much now. I'm about 7 or 8 months off in played time since launch due to various breaks, but still. And I may have a few too many characters to keep track of (not a complete list).

And it looks like the devs are going to be getting a jump on the festivities sooner rather than later.

jdotmi: (Kalleesta COV)
This coming Wednesday, City of Heroes is releasing it's next free expansion called "Architect". I've been messing with it on the test server.

You can make your own custom enemies and missions.

I have two arcs currently up on it. One is called "Terror Incognito", which is Kalleesta hiring some villain to go beat down on the Terra Incognito crew. The second is just a one-shot creepy lil mission called "School of the Damned", which has a demon taking over a boarding school and eating the students. Obviously, more heroic in nature since you're trying to rescue the staff and students. I'll have to play a few arcs on Live to unlock stuff before I can publish them once it goes live, but I plan on getting the running on live as soon as I can. Hopefully they work out okay.

But now vacation time is over (can you guess what I did for most of it?) and it's time to get back to work.

Online Gaming
I'm still playing EverQuest 2. Through July at the least. It's fun now, so who knows. We'll see.

I haven't logged in to City of Heroes/Villains much in the last couple weeks. A brief break has been good for me. I need to buckle down and level up my Widow, though.

I reactivated my World of Warcraft account and got sucked into Karazhan my first night back. And, uh, I haven't really logged in since. :p I will, honest! Just, well, EQ2 ate my brain. Seriously. I'm zombietyping right now. Pretty soon, I'll be all NOM NOM NOM on the keyboard and my co-workers will think I've finally lost my shit.

Kitty Drugs
Daniel kitty is feeling better. Yes. He got sick again. No, no bloody urine this time (although, there was a small potential spot of bloody urine I found). But the vet (who is as sick of us showing up as we are of visiting her, but she's totally awesome so it's only "sick of" in the "could my cat suck any more money out of me?" way) gave us a 30 day supply of anti-spasmodic/antibiotic pilly goodness. He's been happy as a clam since three days of meds passed. He doesn't like getting pilled, but he's beginning to learn that pilling time also equals gooshy food time, so he doesn't shred the furniture any more than normal due to it.

Tabletop Games
[livejournal.com profile] rubicontiger ran a Mage game over the weekend for me and [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi. We were a wee bit brutal with him, but overall I'd call the game a success. Fun was had, storylines were introduced, and we have a reason to play again! I'm thinking every two weeks or once a month would be good, simply because I don't want to have every weekend be the same thing. ;)

I'm sorta wanting to run a 3.5 game again. Figure that out.

...is almost over. Time to post this puppy and punch back in.
jdotmi: (Ruann)
So, I'm back in EverQuest land for free for a bit now. I found some pictures that speak to some of the incarnations of Ruann in that post! Are you ready for this? There's also some other characters that may be familiar to some of my more recent online gaming friends...

Let's do the time warp again. )
jdotmi: (Ruann)
So, not many people really know who the character in this icon is. Well, if you look you'll see the name, and several of my gaming friends on here have seen variations of her in other games. This is a drawing that was done of my Halfling Druid (Ruann E`Paul) in the original EverQuest by a guildmate of mine in the Fourth Wall. Sometime in the past few weeks (prolly the launch of Age of Conan), Sony decided to reactivate every EverQuest and EverQuest 2 account out there. Including mine.

I'm downloading EQ Classic now. It'll be done in about 10 minutes or so.

I'm patching EQ2 now. It'll be done in a couple hours. :p

So, yeah. Ruann of Tarew Marr will be getting logged in. And I'll get to see which of my other characters survived. She's all of 32, so she's got some cool toys to play with. Hell, she's got some massively epic toys she was twinked with by guild mates, but still. Granted, the Tarew Marr server long ago merged with another server (Drinal), but that's ok. I know at least 4 of my characters survived the process. Ruann, Kalleesta, Letalli, and Vesla.

Nostalgia is a weird weird thing. Heh. My account for EQ was created in 1999. Ruann was last logged in on November 16th, 2005. This will be interesting.

So, for those who are curious, here's the progression of the Ruann characters in various games:

Original Version: Ruanne Paul, specialist wizard in the school of Cosmetology (2nd Edition AD&D, Forgotten Realms campaign based somewhat on Highlander the summer after my freshman year of college, humorous character. Do the math.)

EverQuest Version: Ruann E`Paul, Hallfing Druid of Karana (Tarew Marr server, Fourth Wall guild)

Dark Age of Camelot Version: Ruann Epaul, Briton Friar (Palomides server, Fourth Wall guild)

Anarchy Online Version: Karyl "Ruann" Silvestrini, Solitus Martial Artist (Rubi Ka 1, or whatever it's named now, Omni-Tech side, Fourth Wall)

Final Fantasy XI Version: I don't even remember. I'm repressing. Don't make me cut you.

City of Heroes Version: Kung Ru, Martial Arts/Regeneration Scrapper (Once on Pinnacle in the Fourth Wall supergroup, now on Virtue in Terra Incognito). Silvestrini, Martial Arts/Willpower Stalker (Virtue, Luna Incognito. The Praetorian version of Kung Ru).

World of Warcraft Version: Ruann, Halfling Warrior (Aggramar server, Signum Incognitus)

D&D Online Version: Human Warrior (I don't remember what server, I'm not repressing quite as bad as FFXI, at least)

EverQuest 2 Version: Ruann, Halfling Warden (Unrest server)

Since I'm a bum, I've been lax in posting. So, here's a list of things I'd love to post about, but since I'm a bum, I'm not.

  • City of Heroes and Villains
  • My love of TiVo
  • Xbox360 games to know and love
  • Battlestar Galactica pseudoaddictions
  • My freakish new love of cooking
  • Coupled with the shiny new deep skillet we bought that I've used three times since we bought it last weekend
  • The new Borders.com site
  • Getting my oil changed on my car
  • My kitty no longer peeing blood
  • A strong desire to get back into WoW
  • But finances still suck, so not so much
So, yeah.  That's a nice big list, eh?  Not so much with the posty of late.  Pretend there was content in the post.  :-p
jdotmi: (Kalleesta COV)
Issue 12 of City of Heroes/Villains launched yesterday. I'd been testing it in Open Beta on it's test servers for the past two weeks. Specifically, I'd been testing on of the Villain Epic Archetypes added to the game. More specifically, I levelled a brand spanking new Arachnos Widow/Fortunata up to level 32 in 8 days.

I feel like [livejournal.com profile] winterlady all of a sudden. It's weird.

So, yeah. It went live yesterday. This issue also brings us the ability to purchase additional character slots for our servers. See, we were limited to 12 characters per server, which was great for the time. There were 12 archetypes (5 Hero, 5 Villain, 2 Epic Hero), so you could have one of each*! Well, now you can have up to 36 slots per server, but you have to either purchase or use awarded slots to get there. I got 5 free slots. 3 for have a subscription for 3 full years (I lapsed due to the OMG SO POOR) and 2 for logging in after the issue went live. So now I've got new characters on my favorite server that I can hug and squeeze and level until I get bored with them**.

Lots of stuff got added in this update. And this is a "small" update.

So if you don't see me for a while? I'll be in Paragon City or the Rogue Isles or Cimerora or Ouroboros or something.

*: yeah, right, try like 5 of any given archetype on a server, and spilling over into one of the other 11 servers to make more alts
**: Which will be in about 2 days, or 10 levels, whichever comes first. Then I'll make brand new ones and do the same thing with them. Then I'll become crackaddicted to one and level it from 1 to 40 in 2.5 seconds and be hermetically sealed to my desk chair.
jdotmi: (Hidden Justice)
The test server for City of Heroes/Villains was updated yesterday and a lil gem got loose. The current pricing for buying extra character slots. The only one that matters is the $20 for 5 slots. 5 slots on any server (not all servers). Each server can hold a maximum of 36 slots. They also hinted that Vet Rewards will include slots (hopefully they retroactively insert them into some of the more lackluster vet rewards, I'm looking directly at you boxing outfits and costume piece only rewards) and they were going to do a big 4 year anniversarry announcement (the 28th is the official 4 year anniversary). But today they'll release as many details as possible due to the early hit on Test.

I see myself buying 10 slots for Virtue. Well, 5 at the least. And a similar amount for [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi. I mean, I'm totally full on there, and I want to make a Blood Widow. And I only have a Peacebringer on Pinnacle because Virtue is so full. And we can pad out Luna Incognito and then I can delete alts I'm not going to play.

Edit: Well, won't have to buy any to start. 2 free slots for all current subscribers and 1 slot per year of Vet rewards. I've got 3 full years of vet rewards already, and 4 will hit in August for me since I took a few months off a year ago.

Remember what I did three weeks ago?

I had a repeat performance.

Kalleesta was created at the launch of City of Villains. I played her during Beta and she was my main Villain on live since launch. Other villains have come and gone (mostly gone), but she's stuck around. Never remade. Only used freespecs ever. And she's scarily IOd out right now. Not like epicly, but scarily.

Kalleesta hits 50!
Kalleesta hits 50!
April 12th, 2008. Kalleesta dinged 50 while completing a mission for the Television. This shot took a little setup time, but was totally worth it. As Kytrixia (a WoW guildmate) would say: "Love me! (That wasn't a farewell or suggestion.)"
Kalleesta Levels Up for the Last Time
Kalleesta Levels Up for the Last Time
Since it was a mission complete, the "ding" graphical hooplah was taken up with "Clue Found" and "Mission Complete" garbage. So I had to wait a second for the important text to appear.
Kalleesta unlocks Soldiers of Arachnos!
Kalleesta unlocks Soldiers of Arachnos!
I can haz blood widow nao? What do you mean I have to wait for Issue 12 to go live? MOAR BLOOD WIDOW!!

jdotmi: (Kalleesta COV)
So, since yesterday was spent babysitting an incredibly irate cat, I spent a lot of time logged in to City of Villains. Logged in standing at a mission door. With a sidekick. While an entire army of TWO OTHER PLAYERS decimated the mission map (on a team of 6, sometimes 8) to farm (tech mission? seriously?) and PL alts on second accounts.

I'd feel really dirty if I hadn't gone from less than 1/4 of a blip into 46 to halfway through 48 in that time frame.

Okay, I still feel dirty. Not that it'd stop me from doing it all over again, cuz the easy free 20,000 prestige and 4,000,000+ infamy I got for my time made me less cranky about it. Now it's back to soloing my story arcs to at least 49. But I bet 49 to 50 will be done on a team just to make it not take an eternity. Then I'll freak out about trying to not screw up the efficiency expert's missions (cuz, seriously, Positron deserves to be smacked for that badge).

The weird part was after I turned off Supergroup mode and started getting Base Salvage. o_O I was very confused.

Still, should reach my goal of having Kall to 50 before Issue 12 hits, so I can make a Blood Widow. But the Wolf Spiders look interesting, too... Decisions decisions...

Edit: And I realized yesterday that like half the people I had put on my global friends list vanished from it. Probably in the last round of global chat exploding, and it took me until now to notice it. -_-

Why does City of Heroes do this to me?? I manage to wean myself slightly of the addiction, and thus enable myself to spend more time in World of Warcraft, and then they go an announce the next free content update to the game and make me panic that I'll never get a villain to 50 before it launches so I can be one of the 2000 people per server that makes a newbie Blood Widow when it goes live. :p
jdotmi: (Default)
You know how some people do yo-yo dieting? I apparently do yo-yo banking. ~_~ Once again, I have four overdraft fees staring at me from inside my bank account. For the first time in a long time, however, I'm not in a blind panic about it. Two of them I expected (insurance goes through on the 17th typically, which is almost always Very Bad Timing). The other two were because I wasn't paying close enough attention. One of them is a case of Phenomnallly Bad Timing™.

Last night was bill paying night. Phone bill: Paid (I need to call them and be all "turn the phone back on, damnit!"). Cell Phone bill: Paid. Electric bill: Paid. This leaves the Cable bill and the Gas bill as still behind, and I can probably pay off one of them without issue. Well, if I could log in to either site and get a payment to actually process. The other has to wait two weeks. After that, I have my Dell bill to pay a minimum payment on (It's like $40 or something) and that's it. We're caught up at that point. And now that [livejournal.com profile] carebear_flare is working full time again I can get his bill money and he can get caught up (I suspect he'll be caught up with what he owes us from past bills and what he has yet to owe by the end of January).

We haven't been caught up since we moved into the three bedroom apartment. I paid over $600 in bills last night, if that tells you anything. And I'll still have $200 to make it through the next two weeks even if I don't touch any other bills this year (all, what, 10 days left of it?). Then I'll have another $200 I can put towards bills and $200 more to live on for two weeks (which means food and gas, really).

I even think this means I can keep WoW... I quietly re-subscribed this month, which led to a HILLARIOUS moment as [livejournal.com profile] winterlady was installing Leopard on her machine the same day and we were chatting on Yahoo! and I was like "Does WoW run on it?" and she was like "I dunno yet!" and I was like "Well, find out!" and so she logged in and was typing to tell the guild "I'm online playing on Leopard!" and in the midst of her typing I did a /gu *hides* and so her typing came out as "I'm online playing on Leopard!LETALLI!!!!!!! OMG LETALLIIIIIIII!!" and about twenty billion other lines of hillarity that I sadly forgot to screenshot to post them on every corner of the internet. So, yeah. I needed a break from City of. I missed my WoW friends! But, yeah. If we're really caught up, and I'm not just deluding myself into thinking we're caught up, then I can keep WoW without feeling too guilty about it. Hell, I might even finally be able to pick up a retail box of Hellgate: London. Or a game for the 360.

So, time for me to go back to work (yes, working overtime). So, I'm outta here for now!

Edit at 3:30: Well, I just paid $150 on the cable. Back to wondering how we're getting through the next two weeks.
jdotmi: (Default)
Last week's episode of Smallville is made of FAIL. Hi, Blue? I'd like to introduce you to an episode titled Memoria. You two need to get to know one another really really well.

On the plus side, Jor-El did state the obvious and is apparently giving a metaphorical spanking to Clark. Basically it was "Yo, Clark, you're a royal fuck-up who won't listen YET AGAIN." I wish they had let Lara or Kara give at least some of a smackdown to Zor-El. Ah well.

Now I go play City of Villains.
jdotmi: (Shower Fresh)
Well, I didn't post yesterday, so I guess this will be my yesterday post. :p

Day off went well. Did a bit of testing of Issue 11 of City of Heroes/Villains with some level bumped characters. Now I can't wait for it to go live so I can play my tanker on Virtue again. Last night we went out to dinner with a friend and hung out in his hot tub and watched Transformers the movie. That was a fun movie. We didn't wind up getting home until about 3am. Slept for five hours, then the kitties decided it was time for me to be awake. :p

So far, I've played some City of Heroes this morning. Respecced Hidden Justice and got rid of all of her SOs and started filling her up with IOs. She's not completely full yet, and is majorly broke, but she's already better off than she was with her SOs.

Going to get some housework done and more game time in. I'll post a today post later today. Maybe. ;)
