Games I need to finish playing:

Mass Effect 2 (almost done with it, actually, got distracted by MMOs)
Bioshock 2 (about 1/5 of the way through it)
Final Fantasy XII (about 3/4 of the way through it)

Games I should re-start and finish this time:

Final Fantasy IX (I hate this game, but it's a FF game so I really should finish it)
Fallout 3

Games I should give a little more time to just cuz I'm a completionist:

Mass Effect (there's DLC I never completed and I need to complete at least my Renegade playthrough)
Star Ocean: The Last Hope (Haven't finished the second bonus dungeon)
Final Fantasy XIII (cuz, duh!)
Dragon Age: Origins

Apparently I only post when there is bad news lately. :-p

My computer finally gave up the ghost and died last night. I had been able to get it to boot up by unplugging the power, popping the case, removing the CMOS battery, holding the power button for 10 seconds, putting the battery back in, closing the case, plugging it back in, and holding the power button for 5 to 15 seconds.

Now it just blinks at me mockingly.

And, yes, I discovered the above fix on Dell's support forums from several other users with the exact same problem I was having. Dell apparently has no clue what causes it, but replacing the power supply or motherboard typically "fixes" it for a while.

I'm getting my tax refunds in a few days. Do you really think I'm buying a mobo or power supply for a computer that was bought as a refurb 2.5 years ago? Yeah, no.

In happier news, my 360 (3rd 360) works beautifully, and Mass Effect 2 is still awesome, so I'm gonna keep playing that for a while.

Supposedly the roads were really bad this evening for driving on. I did not find this to be a problem. We took back roads to get home, but they weren't bad. We did see a traffic backup at one road, but not in a direction we had to travel. The highway did look pretty heavily congested, but it looked to me moving slowly.

Ah well. Took a little longer to get home, but didn't have to try to keep up with morons on the highway. Can't complain much about that.

In less happy news, the new downloadable content for Dragon Age that was supposed to come out today has been delayed. This does not make me happy.
jdotmi: (Default)
So, yeah. I've been decidedly unchatty on LiveJournal of late, so I figured I'd, well, not fix it but, ya know, pretend to care.

Um. I'm on vacation this week! So, yeah. Home all week. Uh. We joined Netflix finally. Now we just gotta find stuff to watch via the xbox on it. First two movies we had shipped to us were blu-ray's of Iron Man and The Dark Knight which we will probably watch at some point this week. Both WoW and CoX have 6 month subscriptions attached, too.

I beat Star Ocean 4 a week or so ago. Prolly more. But now I'm doing the bonus dungeons and the Arena. I sorta accidentally beat the final arena boss in under 5 minutes the first time I fought him, so I may be just a tad overlevelled. And I beat the first bonus dungeon end boss (first flavor) in under 10 minutes. I know this cuz there were Battle Trophies attached and all that. So yeah.

OH! I got WORMS for the Xbox! It's one of their downloadable games. [livejournal.com profile] dianak would be so amused. I am noting a distinct lack of holy hand grenades so far, though. :( And no carpet bombs.

[livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi is finally finishing up Battlestar Galactica. Tivo is very happy that he's getting done with all his shows on it. :-p

Well, that's all I got. Time to plan for tomorrow, what with it being our 11th anniversary and all that. (Yes, for real, yes, we are so amused by this.)

Hooray! Water! Called the office yesterday before leaving work and they were like "oh yeah, water got fixed at like 8 this morning" and I was all "I TOLD YOU TO CALL ME BACK HELLO??" but whatever. We had water. First thing I did when I got home was take a nice hot shower. No more greasy for me!

Dinner last night was a baked shrimp and brocolli alfredo. It's also lunch today.

Star Ocean made me cry just before leaving Lemuris (the second planet). And now at least I understand why I should have aimed for 100% on one of the monsters there before beating the boss. Ah well. Can't get 100% on the bosses on one play-through anyway, so yeah.

WOrk is crazy this morning. Half the morning crew called off, so we're very much a skeleton crew this morning. Back to it I go.
jdotmi: (Default)
Nothing quite beats waking up in the morning and looking forward to a nice warm shower than the discovery that there is no running water in your entire apartment. Good times. Good times.

So, yeah. Woke up this morning to a complete lack of running water. So, [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi and I got up, got dressed, made our lunches, and meandered on in to work an hour early. Yeah. Got breakfast and now am waiting until I can go punch in to begin my day.

Did I mention the no running water? Yeah. That means no shower. I feel greasy as hell right now. This is not a happy moment for me.

In other news, Dollhouse 1.3 was pretty good. Not as good as 1.2, but better than 1.1 was. And Eliza can sing, who knew?

Latest video game addiction? Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope. Fun fun game. Addictive game. Urge to kill little chibi mage with the incredibly doped up voice rising...

Fallout 3 is kinda addictive.

I know, I didn't post a single thing last week regarding my party (it was fun!) or what I did for the week following while I didn't have to be at work (other than a brief interruption on Tuesday when I had to go in to get my mid-year review).

Party was a success! [livejournal.com profile] margaras arrived quite unexpectedly, but we didn't complain! It was nice to see him again! And he got free monitors out of the visit. [livejournal.com profile] winterlady, [livejournal.com profile] bugfish, and kidlet came as expected, bearing gifts of fudge, pie, and a WoW time card! [livejournal.com profile] eligrrl and her boyfriend came. She even brought White Cheddar Cheez-its, which are one of the best snack foods EVER. [livejournal.com profile] oskaar arrived a bit later than everyone else, but it was nice to see him again, too. Non-LJ friend Steve also came over with his cheesy potatoes. And I made a vegetarian version of my crack-pasta dish despite [livejournal.com profile] fenwalker not making it after all. It came out great anyway, so I'm not complaining. Much. ;) We watched Jeff Dunham's Arguing with Myself, Clue, and Margaret Cho's I'm the One I Want.

The rest of last week was mostly low key. We went to have dinner at [livejournal.com profile] lilbearmi's place on Monday and watched The Producers (musical version). [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi's sister took us out to lunch at TGI Friday's on Monday, too. We also exchanged our Xbox360 (our second one, that stopped spinning discs) and they let us keep the hard drive from the old one AND we got a store credit since the price dropped $50 since we had bought it. It also came with Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Forza 2. Seeing as how we already owned the latter that was amusing. Later in the week we used that credit to nab Apartment Life for The Sims 2, and I picked up Spark of Insanity, which is the Jeff Dunham DVD I didn't yet have.

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] lilbearmi skipped out on going to Fest (due to this thing called hurricane remnants coating the entirety of Michigan in torrential rain and causing Fest to close early anyway) and visited us and we watched I'm the One I Want again and the .Tivo file I have of Legally Blonde: The Musical. And I made taco-beefy-cheddar-penne. Yes, it's as unhealthy as it sounds. Yes, it tastes as good as it sounds. The visit did prompt a manic "clean the apartment in under 90 minutes" event wherein we did exactly that. And then had a brief argument (okay, slightly more than brief and slightly more than an argument) about keeping up with the housework. Heh. Granted, this conversation tried to happen in the middle of my Virgo Moment™ and annoyed me. :-p But it was ultimately productive and we all felt much better after. :)

And, now, I'm back at work. And now I'm going to get back to it. My inbox is positively freaking out.
jdotmi: (Pissed)

You guys? Seriously? You guys? Remember how my last Xbox sorta kinda imploded and wouldn't show any video and we had to send it in and wait for an eternity to get a credit so we could go replace it? Well the replacement? THE FUCKING DVD DRIVE NO LONGER SPINS!

At least it had the decency to wait until after I beat Too Human.

Last day of the three day weekend! And only a few more days until my birthday party! I am determined to enjoy myself even if [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi has to work and is likely to be anti-social when he gets home. He said it was okay to have the party, just not to get mad at him if he's cranky. :-p Turns out, he may have a co-worker whose attitude gives a couple former co-workers of ours a run for their money, if you know what I mean and I think you do.

Gonna go beat Too Human, I think.
jdotmi: (Default)
It is going to be so weird when I get home tonight. [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi will be at work, [livejournal.com profile] rubicontiger will be at an appointment. It'll be me and the cats. THIS IS NOT NORMAL!!! I suppose I could use the time to make sure I have everything written down that I'll need for my birthday shindig on the 6th, or I could play Too Human. Decisions decisions.

I'm not used to cooking for less than three people now. Heh. I was halfway through making dinner last night when I was like "Oh, yeah, not everyone is here". Too late! I just ate more instead. x_x

Well, not much else to write about right now. So I'll get back to work.
jdotmi: (Shower Fresh)
Well, I didn't win the mega millions last night. *is sad*not really So the 9 to 5 slog (er, 8 to 5) continues for me. [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi has his first full day of work today, so here's to hoping that goes well.

[livejournal.com profile] rubicontiger got ill yesterday so we had to go home early. He's feeling much better now, though. He wound up sleeping for a long while after we got home.

There is a filtered party planning post below this one. I posted a poll yesterday for anyone interested in attending. I have added a couple people to the filter that haven't responded yet because I've either a)talked to you about the party already or b)your ass is attending one way or the other. ^_^

Too Human continues to be awesome. Civilization IV continues to eat my brain. The world continues to turn and my hair and nails continue to grow. All in all, not too bad.

Oh! Hey, if you want to get me a birthday present, I wouldn't say no to WoW and City game time cards. I'm just sayin'...
jdotmi: (Default)
Quick update on the state of things.

Too Human is loads of fun. I haven't had nearly enough time to play it, though, since I keep getting interrupted. :-p Ah well, at some point I'll be able to play all the way through a level without interruption and, who knows, maybe even get an achievement for no deaths in a level (have to complete the level with no deaths and in one sitting to get them). Replaying levels is fun since more enemies show up and some breakables/obelisks have moved around. Plus, ya know, all the shiny tasty loot you can get again.

So far I'm enjoying the Champion and Berserker the most. The Bio-engineer is okay, but he takes forever to kill things. This is problematic in timed battle arenas. Heh. I still need to start up a Commando and a Defender.

Civilization IV has still eaten my brain. I play every night before bed and whenever I'm online chatting on my computer. It's kinda amusing.

Having a social life is nice. An in-person one, that is.

[livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi started work this week! I am very happy about this. Here's to hoping the job doesn't kill him. Heh. Hours aren't likely to be a problem since he's willing to work afternoons, but it looks like we'll be back to rarely seeing eachother. Won't be so bad once we're all caught up on bills, though...

Back to work for me!
jdotmi: (Default)
I played about an hour or so of Too Human last night and another 20 minutes this morning. My play time was curtailed due to birthday dinner shennanigans for [livejournal.com profile] rubicontiger. I've also played the demo a couple times, so this First Impression is more of a third.

The gameplay is fun and fast paced, let's get that out of the way right up front. Once you have the controls down, my only real complaint is the camera controls, which are next to nonexistant. The problem new players will have is getting the controls down. The first level does pop-up some "helpful" information, but it's not doing anyone any favors in the "Tutorial" sense of the word. A nice combat tutorial would make this game a much quicker draw for new players.

The Achievements come fast and furious at the beginning of the game, especialy if you get into the zone during the secret battle halls. Things probably slow down pretty quickly, though, since some of the achievements have some pretty hefty requirements.

Loot drops are crazy. I pre-ordered, so I have the pre-order gear for all new characters. This gear is pretty sweet looking, and the stat boosts help a lot in the first area. I've already replaced much of it with gear you can get in the first area (succesful completion of the secret areas give you blueprints for some pretty sick armor). Even if you don't have the pre-order gear, though, the drop rate for upgraded goodies is pretty high, so you won't be worrying much. Again, however, the lack of a tutorial as to what things are in-game means some people will be confused for some time on utilizing their best stuff.

The storyline seems pretty good so far. My only issue with it is that it seems pretty clear pretty quickly where certain things are going to go awry with the storyline, which may mean they're being too obvious. If you enjoy mythology, especially Norse mythology, you will definitely get a kick out of the story of this game. It's set in a post-apocalyptic Earth that appears to be reliving, or perhaps the source of, said mythology.

All in all, I'd say this game should be bought if you enjoy action/adventure/action RPG style games. It's got a very Diablo feel to it.
jdotmi: (Default)
Holy crap I haven't posted in forever. Um. I've been busy? Well, okay, I've been playing Blue Dragon and Civilization IV and Sims 2 a lot.

Kitty (Daniel) is doing much much better. I think he likes his medication and fancy expensive (prescription) cat food. Sadly, the other cat likes the food, too, and convincing him to eat his food is hard. Stupid cat.

There are a few games coming out or that have come out that I want. I want Civilization: Revolution for the 360 for no good reason. I've played the Demo a lot. It's basically Civ-Lite, but for some reason I want it anyway. I know it's not anything I'd play a lot of, either, so I'm definitely not going out of my way to get it. I also downloaded the demos for Too Human (DO WANT) and Tales of Vesperia (probably want). Interesting games. Too Human is the game that Hellgate: London should have been (engine wise and the feel of the controls, at least).

On Saturday, we went to the Woodward Dream Cruise and watched an assortment of classic and not so classic cars drive by. The sad thing was all of the ones driving by with "For Sale" signs in their windows. -_- There was a Batmobile in the style of the 1960's TV show, which was pretty cool, and way too many variations of like three different styles of car. Don't ask me, I'm not the car guy. :-p Either way, fun was had, food was eaten, people were visited. The party we went to was hosted by some friends and there were around 20 to 30 people there all told. Spent too much time playing Wii games after getting bored with the cars, too. Heh.

Well, I got a lot of work done this morning and have more to get working on, so I'm going to go do that now.
jdotmi: (Default)
So, I'm in a video game kick again. This is partially problematic. Lately, when I get in video game kicks I wind up playing a little bit of twenty different games and not getting anything done in any of them.

So, here's my current list of games I'm "playing" (or at least think I am).

Final Fantasy XII
I have this bad habit with this series. I buy the game, play it for a week or a week and a half, get 1/2 to 2/3 done, and then stop. For a year. Or more. I think in this case it was an "or more" situation. Normally I start over from the beginning when I get back into the game. Not this time. I picked up my save game right where I left off. So far, I play this puppy once or twice a week for about two hours at a time. Everyone's currently in their 50's and has tons of License Points. I'm sorta at a point where getting additional LPs is pointless until I advance the story some more and can buy the abilities and items that are unlocked, but hey. I had gone on a Hunt Club / Rare Game / Esper spree prior to stopping, so I was finishing up that when I got back to the game.

The only game in this series that I haven't pulled the above stunt with in recent history is Final Fantasy X-2, which I got 100% completion on in one play through. Of course, this means that there is an entire story branch that I did not see (you can't get 100% if you go down that branch), but still. Not bad at all, although quite time consuming. Especially the hours spent in the Lady Luck dressphere gaining double XP.

Beautiful Katamari
So, we just got our Xbox360 back. Or, rather, we got a new one. See, our old one died in the "OH HAI, I B0RK UR VID3O" sort of way. So we returned it to Best Buy and got credit to get a new one. We had moved all of our save games and downloads (except for Forza and Viva Pinata, which were too large) via [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi's sister's son's memory card (how many of those 's did I really need? anyone know?). Oh, and apparently the day after we moved everything back to our new machine, their machine said "OH HAI! RRoD!!" and we went "phew!" and stuff. So, anyway, this ties in to the Katamari story, honest.

So we get our downloads moved over and... they don't work. Okay, okay, don't panic. Let's look it up. Oh! We can transfer licenses from one machine to another once per year. Phew! Lucky! Do that. What? Still nada? Oh, re-download all that shit again? Well, it's already on the drive, so just do that to be safe. Took next to no time since we had the files. Now all our games are shiny and happy. Well, other than Viva Pinata, which it's not like I had successfully acquired a Galagoogoo for my garden or anything, thus completing my collection of every single Pinata in the game. Nor had I maxed out my Xbox LIVE achievement points for the game or anything.

SO, yeah. I played two of the downloaded stages which I had never played before and they were fun and so I'll probably finish those up and try to get the rest of the cousins and presents at some point. And try to get more than 9 points at the Seadome, which is the WORST LEVEL EVER.

The Sims 2
It's not like this needs much explanation. We have the most recent expansion, granted another is coming out in like three weeks. It's Sims! They're fun! And dumb! And can be made to do silly things with little effort! Plus, killing them can be amusing. Mostly, I make them go to work, make friends, have freakish affairs, go to school, and whatnot. This one I play pretty much anytime I wind up in front of my computer at home and don't play something else. Which is either a lot or never (I've rarely had time this week).

Civilization IV
I really got into this when it came out, then lost interest, then the first expansion came out which was okay, but didn't keep my interest nearly long enough. The second expansion was a lot of fun, though. Again, didn't keep my attention long though. Now I've been playing it more than I've played Sims 2 lately. Heh. I keep restarting games and not finishing them, though. Ah well. I'm enjoying myself. :)

Blue Dragon
I sorta pulled that thing I do with the Final Fantasy series with this game. I bought it, played it for a week, didn't even get past disk 1, and then stopped. I just restarted it yesterday.

There are more that I'm going to be playing again soon, but that's all that is currently on my plate. Mass Effect and Phantasy Star Universe and Star Ocean: Til the End of Time and Final Fantasy IX are on the list of games I want to play. The only one of those I finished was Mass Effect, so that tells you something there.
jdotmi: (pr0n)
Apparently Armin Shimmerman played the voice of Andrew Ryan in BioShock. And Juliet Landau played the Little Sisters.

FFXIII is going to be released for the xbox 360.

Okay, one game to go and we won't "need" a PS3...
jdotmi: (Shower Fresh)
Since I'm a bum, I've been lax in posting. So, here's a list of things I'd love to post about, but since I'm a bum, I'm not.

  • City of Heroes and Villains
  • My love of TiVo
  • Xbox360 games to know and love
  • Battlestar Galactica pseudoaddictions
  • My freakish new love of cooking
  • Coupled with the shiny new deep skillet we bought that I've used three times since we bought it last weekend
  • The new Borders.com site
  • Getting my oil changed on my car
  • My kitty no longer peeing blood
  • A strong desire to get back into WoW
  • But finances still suck, so not so much
So, yeah.  That's a nice big list, eh?  Not so much with the posty of late.  Pretend there was content in the post.  :-p
jdotmi: (Shower Fresh)
So, like, my state tax refund posted yesterday. Technically it did on Tuesday, but I didn't check for it until yesterday. So, as I sat there staring at a number in my checking account I haven't been acquainted with in YEARS, I said to myself "Self, you are going to get your ass out to a store and BUY YOU SOMETHING WITH YOUR FREAKIN' REFUND!!!"

And, lo, I did.

It didn't take much to convince [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi to get out of his jammies at 8 at night and drive down to Best Buy in Ann Arbor where the Gods of Best Buy smiled upon us once again* and we picked up the big box o' Guitar Hero III (with it's wireless guitar) for $89 instead of $99 as the display it was on still had the old price tag beneath it and we pointed it out to a helpful supervisor at the store who confirmed with the cashier that we were indeed entitled to said cheaper price because of the inability of staff at the store to properly remove old price signs.

We also picked up a copy of Bully: Scholarship Edition for the Xbox360 because [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi wanted the new content and doesn't want to play it on the PS2 (which we have the original version for) because, well, we have the 360. We should lend the old one to his sister so she can decide if she'll let her son play it or not. He's 12 (or thereabouts). So yeah.

And now, I work!

*: Once upon a time, we got a full version of Windows 98 for the price of an upgrade at the same store because the box had the wrong price tag on it. We did about four double takes that day before putting down the upgrade box we had picked up and replaced it with the full version box. Yeah. That was a long time ago.
