I know, I didn't post a single thing last week regarding my party (it was fun!) or what I did for the week following while I didn't have to be at work (other than a brief interruption on Tuesday when I had to go in to get my mid-year review).

Party was a success! [livejournal.com profile] margaras arrived quite unexpectedly, but we didn't complain! It was nice to see him again! And he got free monitors out of the visit. [livejournal.com profile] winterlady, [livejournal.com profile] bugfish, and kidlet came as expected, bearing gifts of fudge, pie, and a WoW time card! [livejournal.com profile] eligrrl and her boyfriend came. She even brought White Cheddar Cheez-its, which are one of the best snack foods EVER. [livejournal.com profile] oskaar arrived a bit later than everyone else, but it was nice to see him again, too. Non-LJ friend Steve also came over with his cheesy potatoes. And I made a vegetarian version of my crack-pasta dish despite [livejournal.com profile] fenwalker not making it after all. It came out great anyway, so I'm not complaining. Much. ;) We watched Jeff Dunham's Arguing with Myself, Clue, and Margaret Cho's I'm the One I Want.

The rest of last week was mostly low key. We went to have dinner at [livejournal.com profile] lilbearmi's place on Monday and watched The Producers (musical version). [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi's sister took us out to lunch at TGI Friday's on Monday, too. We also exchanged our Xbox360 (our second one, that stopped spinning discs) and they let us keep the hard drive from the old one AND we got a store credit since the price dropped $50 since we had bought it. It also came with Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Forza 2. Seeing as how we already owned the latter that was amusing. Later in the week we used that credit to nab Apartment Life for The Sims 2, and I picked up Spark of Insanity, which is the Jeff Dunham DVD I didn't yet have.

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] lilbearmi skipped out on going to Fest (due to this thing called hurricane remnants coating the entirety of Michigan in torrential rain and causing Fest to close early anyway) and visited us and we watched I'm the One I Want again and the .Tivo file I have of Legally Blonde: The Musical. And I made taco-beefy-cheddar-penne. Yes, it's as unhealthy as it sounds. Yes, it tastes as good as it sounds. The visit did prompt a manic "clean the apartment in under 90 minutes" event wherein we did exactly that. And then had a brief argument (okay, slightly more than brief and slightly more than an argument) about keeping up with the housework. Heh. Granted, this conversation tried to happen in the middle of my Virgo Moment™ and annoyed me. :-p But it was ultimately productive and we all felt much better after. :)

And, now, I'm back at work. And now I'm going to get back to it. My inbox is positively freaking out.

So, today is a busy day.

Superman Returns is out on DVD. Shopping must ensue.

Issue 8 of City of Heroes launches today. Must make a Super Hero and/or Villain with some variation of the name "Always"... Because I am crass that way sometimes...

Meijer must be invaded. We're out of soda and milk and could use some grated cheese-style product for pasta.

Then there's all that work stuff that needs doing. Crazy how that happens.

Some day, I'll figure out where I should be going to buy comic books, because I'm starting to get behind on the things I want to read...

Yay! It's Thursday! Also known as my Friday. I don't have to wake up early tomorrow, of course I will still be woken up by two cats demanding to be fed even though they will still have food in their food dishes.

Plans for tomorrow include potentially going to see My Super Ex-Girlfriend, having dinner with (and giving some parting gifts to) [livejournal.com profile] dianak, and possibly doing a Zul'Farrak run in World of Warcraft. We may skip the movie, since we went to Best Buy last night and bought the expansion pack for Civilization IV.

I didn't install it, since I was bound and determined to get my Druid in WoW to 46, which I was successful at after a brief screaming match with the phone in regards to our internet service which has generall sucked of late. It keeps cutting out, and yesterday evening we could only get to the home page for our provider for a bit. While I was on hold waiting for a tech (huge queue, methinks they had an outage) the problem cleared up. So I was able to log in, kill Scorpids, and blow my entire cash wad on spell upgrades.

Tonight, I'll install it. No WoW for me tonight. Maybe I'll be lucky and [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi will reinstall Civ IV and install my copy of the expansion for me so I won't have to, since neither are installed on my computer at present. *wink wink nudge nudge SLEDGEHAMMER oops*

And now, I work!

Watching Superman Returns on Friday has gotten me into a superhero rut of sorts. Must watch more superhero movies. Watched Fantastic Four over the weekend. That one's just eye candy, really. Watched Batman Begins last night. Probably going to watch Spider-Man tomorrow (having a cookout at [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi's sister's place tonight). The problem I'm having is that I really want to know what happens after Superman Returns. That movie left me wanting more. Now. The other one's I just mentioned didn't do that. Yeah, I want a sequel to Batman Begins, but the events and ending of it didn't make me want the next installment immediately. I watched Spider-Man for the first time the day before I went to see Spider-Man 2, so there wasn't ever a problem with that. I don't think anybody much cared what happens next after Fantastic Four, but I'm definitely going to see the sequel that they have started production on.

Superman Returns, though, left me wanting more. I want to know what's going to happen between the characters in the film. That's the part that interests me. The action and spectacle are important, but the thing that makes a good superhero movie, really, is the characters and how you can actually relate to and empathize with them. They hit the nail on the head with Superman Returns in that department. Sorta like how everyone wanted to know immediately after X2 how they were going to handle the Phoenix.

Hmm. Bad comparison... seeing as how THEY FUCKED IT UP IN THE NEXT MOVIE. Of course, it wasn't the same "they", since the director did what, again? Oh, yeah!

He did Superman Returns. Guess that explains that!

[livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi and I went and saw Superman Returns this afternoon.

Sequel. NOW. Mean it!

This movie was a complete homage to the Richard Donner Superman. There are beats throughout the film that play directly to beats in the first movie, and yet it manages to completely reinvent the character of Superman for the big screen. The humor is on, the drama is on, the action is on. It does have some cheeseball moments (and many of them were in teaser trailers for the movie) and it has some really emotional moments.

No spoilers. First for me. I won't even mention my favorite part, unless someone asks, so the comments may be totally spoiler heavy.

I am still not used to my new work schedule at all. I even went to bed early last night (8:30pm since I couldn't have stayed awake later if I tried) and didn't want to wake up this morning. Having three days off in a row from here is messing with my brain. :-p

Over the three day weekend, I didn't read LiveJournal at all, so tried to play catch-up this morning. x_X Too much happened this past weekend, apparently. Y'all need to live more boring lives!!!

Saw Cars on Friday with [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi (of course) and [livejournal.com profile] carebear_flare. It was actually quite good. Parts of it seemed a little slow and predictable, but it was still quite good. The short at the beginning of it, One Man Band, is hillarious.

I, of course, played way too much World of Warcraft this weekend. Letalli is fast approaching 37, Andrialan hit 26. Also got Letalli's leatherworking up to the point where she can no longer wear what she's making until she passes level 40. Doesn't seem to be much of a market for what she's making, though, so I'm going to have to get some ingredients (turtle scales, scorpid scales) to mix things up a bit if I'm going to get anything sold on the AH. Good thing I'm heading to Gadgetzan today when I get home since all of my Stranglethorn quests are now either elite or orange or red to me. And I need to remember to hijack some guildies to take out the end of the Missing Diplomat quest. Maybe get them to help out with a couple of the elite quests I've got, too.

I need to take a breather, methinks, before I burn myself out on it. Get some quality CoV time or something. Heck, watch some of the shows I've been neglecting on the Tivo. And now, I get to get back to work.

Good morning LiveJournal! So far, my vacation has been quite a success. Well, at least for me. :-p Saturday was movie day here. Didn't get too many people, but as it was we kinda didn't have as much space as I originally thought, so that wasn't too bad. Attendees included [livejournal.com profile] knottie, [livejournal.com profile] carebear_flare, [livejournal.com profile] margaras, my coworker Charles (yes, that's his name) and his lady friend who has a really interesting name that I can't remember to save my life. :-p Charles accidentally left his tub of brownies here, so I'll be returning the tub when I return to work next week.

We started with Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which was quite a success. The next movie we decided to watch was Clue, which is always a good thing. After that it was just [livejournal.com profile] margaras and [livejournal.com profile] carebear_flare left here as everyone else had to depart, so we played two games of Clue (I only observed on the last game, I won the game I played), and then we all went to bed.

Sunday morning I woke up early and headed out to feed the cats. [livejournal.com profile] margaras was already awake so I sat out in the living room and chatted with him until [livejournal.com profile] carebear_flare woke up. We then went into my room and I played some City of Villains and we all chatted. Then [livejournal.com profile] carebear_flare web-browed while we chatted. A couple hours later, [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi got up and we all hung out and eventually played a game of Monopoly.

I started out the weakest (with one property of five different colors and no railroads or utilities), but wound up with all 4 railroads, a monopoly on the Forest Green properties (which I quickly built up) and eventually got a monopoly on the blue/grey properties. Oriental Avenue was the last property purcheased, and was purchased by me. My first hotels went there (and I pulled in lots of rent on those) and then I destroyed people when they landed on the newly hotel'd Pacific Avenue. [livejournal.com profile] carebear_flare got bankrupted by [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi, and then [livejournal.com profile] margaras (despite an early cash lead) got bankrupted by me. Then [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi landed on my hotels and went bankrupt. [livejournal.com profile] margaras went home shortly after the game was over and [livejournal.com profile] carebear_flare went home later in the evening.

We rearranged [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi's room last night as well. After having done my room a couple weeks ago he wanted to do his room. So now it is done! He was quite happy with it.

I think I am going to go play my baby Corruptor in CoV on Virtue now.

Too much to get done today, and I'm chained to my desk for a bit so can't do much of it yet.

Just got the Ultimate Key in Dragon Quest VIII. Time to go treasure hunting again. I might have enough mini medals already to get the Sacred Armor (or whatever the hell it's called, the thing after the Miracle Sword). I may go back to Baccarat and play some Roulette to get some cash (Prayer Rings sell nicely) since I'm pretty much out, and I know there's a lot of good things to buy soon, and I'll not be able to Zoom around for a little bit shortly. Plus I want to make sure I finish all the big mixes I can do before heading into the Pirates Cove.

[livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi made a very tasty dinner last night. Chicken (kinda a staple for us) and the corn casserole recipe he got from his sister. That stuff is entirely way too good.

The new expansion for The Sims 2, called Open for Business comes out... well, today. Some people got their copies on Monday since they shipped pre-orders on Friday. We'll probably be waiting until next week to get it. Or Friday, since I get paid at both jobs this week. But I do have to pay rent this week, so I'm going to probably wait.

So, I've decided I want a social life again. Hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] eligrrl last week was fun, after all. I miss hanging out with my friends! Maybe some local people wanna plan a big Red Robin night or something. Or everyone could come over and watch Rent or some Margaret Cho DVD at my place. That reminds me, I need to pick up her latest DVD.

Anyrate, must get back to work. Have computers to break. Er, fix.

It's Shadowrun weekend, which means I gamed on Saturday and then came to work at midnight. This means I am now very very tired.

[livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi and I traded in our old cell phones for some camera phones. I have, of course, had way too much fun with the camera portion of the phone. Now just need to find a non-expensive way to get the pictures off the phone and onto my computer. :-p Why, yes, I do have a digital camera I could use instead of the phone, but what's the fun in that? I have some really cute kitty pictures on the camera. And some pictures of [livejournal.com profile] margaras, who wants the pictures. Tried getting some of [livejournal.com profile] lilacmoon5, but sticking a camera in her face is grounds for murder apparently. :-p

I've been drinking coffee tonight. It's not helping the tired bit. :-p Well, correction. It helped while I was drinking it. Then, when I stopped, I was like "zzzzzzzzzzzzzznrk zzzzzzzzzz" and it was bad.

I ate way too much junk throughout the day. We wound up ordering pizza for gaming dinner, but I only had two slices before being full. Of course, having eaten nothing but cookies and two chicken sandwiches and potato chips and CrackSnack (aka puppy chow in most recipe books, although [livejournal.com profile] lilacmoon5 made it with Crispix as opposed to Chex) all day means that my stomach is on strike against the lack of real food.

I've now watched Rent five times since buying it Wednesday night. And I've listened to the movie soundtrack twice through, not counting the play time in my car.

Going back to the food thing... I am just now finally getting hungry again. Which means I'll be starving by the time I get home. This does not bode well. Maybe I'll cook up a chicken sandwich or something.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: Good movie. Plenty of adult humor threaded into it to keep adults entertained, plenty of eye candy to keep everyone entertained, plenty of Johnny Depp to keep the hormone squad entertained. :-p I do agree with one particular review in that this version of Willy is SO channeling some Michael Jackson freak factor. Not in the creepy could-be-a-child-molester kind of way, but in the creepy that-guy-is-just-wrong-in-the-fucking-head kind of way.

Work: Boring. It's the weekend. Of course it's boring. What else would it be? I haven't heard any horror stories yet about that thing that was released yesterday from co-workers, but I'm sure the stories will come.

City of Heroes: Issue 5 is on the test server. Statesman actually made a post titled "Balance Vision". I started having flashbacks. I was like, "Wait a minute... when did it become 'Brad ''Statesman'' McQuaid' in charge of things??? Isn't supposed to be 'Jack ''Statesman'' Emerret'???" He actually used the words "balance" and "vision" as the title of a post.

All I can think is... THE VISION™!!!!!ONE11!!ELEVENTYONE!!

(Yes, you must imagine that in a big booming !FruityMaster voice ala Cordy-as-the-big-bad in Angel season 4.)

Anyrate, I'm a bit jaded at this point. Regen got the pointy end of the stick again, but not nearly as badly as it has in the past. I actually don't hate the changes. o_O Figure that one out. Invuln got the pointy end of several sticks, and a quick visit from Lorena Bobbit as a chaser. I want to suspect that some of that was due to Geko's infamous typos, but I think it may not be. Controllers just had their kneecaps removed. No fun dancing without them. I suspect the Invuln and Controller changes (as well as a couple other targeting issues [taunt anyone? and holy shit they nerfed Hidden Justice since Fulcrum Shift will only hit 10 enemies max now!!]) are going to be bait-n-switched to a less hateful version relatively shortly, much to the well-expected annoyance of those who are actually paying attention and much to the happiness of those who just want to fellate the dev team at every given opportunity.

New power sets in this Issue! I love Sonics, both Sonic Debuff (Defender Primary) and Sonic Attacks (Blaster Primary) versions. I've got a Sonic/Sonic Defender on Test who is having a blast and a Sonic/Energy Blaster who's having even more fun. I think that Jared Infinity on Virtue is going to be remade as Sonic/Energy once I5 goes live. He's currently a low level Energy/Energy Blaster. I like Trick Shot and Archery, but the power text is all wrong on Trick Shot. Nothing yet does damage in game, but Ice Arrow is supposed to according to all the text for it. The Archery attacks are kind of boring so far, but I still like them. I do have a Trick Arrow/Archery Defender on Test as well. He will also port over to Virtue when it goes Live. I suspect Controllers will love Trick Arrow as a secondary, although, at the moment I don't know many Controllers who aren't plotting death and destruction to the Devs and to hell with the rest of the world. :-p

Oh, yeah, I expect big nerfage to come towards Sonics. There is so much potential for destruction with those sets (they debuff damage resistance, after all, and it's not just one power that does it... it's practically every power that does it) that they almost can't go live in their current state. We'll have to see how far they can push it in larger groups and at higher levels, but I smell a nerfing in the air.

Highlander: The Raven: I own it. And there was much rejoicing. And much sadness, to find out all the crap that was going on behind the scenes during the short time that series was with us. For the record, Elizabeth Gracen was dating a raging sociopath who had her convinced that Kenneth Star was after her (she knew Clinton, remember, and this was during the whole blowjobgate fiasco) and that various government and criminal agencies were trying to spy on her and whatnot. And he fed her all sorts of lies about her co-star which caused even more tension. The producers and writers all gave the impression that they felt so badly for her when it all came to light what this asshole was doing, which unfortunately wasn't until after the show was canceled. And, can I just say, I have become truly spoiled by Joss Whedon's work. Watching the interviews for this series I got the impression that there were far too many cooks in the kitchen trying to dictate this show's direction, and it truly screwed it over. Hell, the producers they interviewed all felt like they got pushed and shoved into doing things they rather wish they hadn't on this show. Just knowing that there was no cohesion behind the scenes on the show (when there is so clearly an abundance of cohesion behind the scenes on Joss Whedon's shows) was depressing. I loved Highlander and the character of Amanda. They deserved way better than this.

Lois and Clark: Season 1: I own this, too. Okay, it's not as exciting as Highlander, but it's still good fun. I completely get why they dropped Cat Grant in season 2, though. It wasn't the actress, for certain. It was the writing of the character and the makeup jobs they did for her. She looked horrid in the episodes with the exception of the scene in her apartment (dinner with Clark) when she doesn't look like a $2 whore and was in sweats and her hair is actually softened up and her makeup looked like it wasn't applied with a trowel. I've seen Tracy Scoggins in a couple of shows after this one and she looked way better in those shows than she did in this one. I mean, in the first three hours of the series she looked like a woman exactly once. How on earth they managed to make her look that bad that often is beyond me.

Buffy: Working through Season 4, in between the previous three bits mentioned above. Just finished "The Initiative". Looking forward to "Hush", as it is one of my all time favorite episodes.

I brought my Buffy and Angel RPG books to work today. Going to make some test characters during my lunch break. Remake the Lisa Stall I did before as well as make a Sarina Matrilor ([livejournal.com profile] templar_rose would know her. She and Lisa were inseparable back in the AD&D 2nd Edition days.) and a few others. I would like to play (or run) it at some point, but [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi doesn't want to play in it. So I may put together a D20 Modern game or something.

Batman Begins
Very very good. Want sequel right the fuck now.
jdotmi: (Default)
I'd warn about spoilers, but if you didn't know there would be some, you don't deserve to not be spoiled.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith )

Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Saw this on Friday. I enjoyed it, but it seemed a bit long in some parts. It also doesn't have a real conclusion, as it were. It's still a good movie. Not going to go into detail on it or anything. Not enough stuff to break out. :-p
