Mmmm. Sim goodness. Mmmm.
So, game company X continually puts out games with Y number of bugs and Z number of bizzare oddities that aren't quite bugs. The players of the games continually fix these things despite company X continually saying there are no bugs.
Thus is born the story of The Sims.
Albeit, company X actually admitted there were bugs!!! All us long-term hardcore Simmers were in shock.
So, The Sims is undeniably the biggest game ever. It has sold more copies than any other PC game and has been the number one seller for years. It actually did get knocked out of number 1 this year for the first time in ages.
The Sims has 5 expansion packs: Living Large, House Party, Hot Date, Vacation, and Unleashed.
The Sims has a new edition called Deluxe Edition.
The Sims takes up like 2.5 gigs installed straight out of the package.

I love it. Best game ever. Period. No questions asked. Well, ok Final Fantasy will always win out in my mind, but they're not even really in the same kind of playing field as The Sims.
So, this latest Expansion is the first one that has caused me any real problems. Yeah there were some funky things that happened with Hot Date which I heard about and when I tried to recreate them I was able to, but never really ran into them on my own. Unleashed, however, introduced the biggest bug of all.
The designers being morons and not paying attention to what they are doing.
One file. One teeny tiny file got changed with this expansion to be Read-Only. This seems to have made it impossible to have a Sim change their outfits permanently. More experimentation is in order to prove it, but that's what it sounds like.
They replaced the female walking animations with themale walking animations. Hence was born the Gorilla Girlz, as they were so elegantly named at Neighborhood 99.
Both of these problems hit me. Both of them annoyed me.
Not a big deal though, right? Change the file to not be Read-Only and the clothing can change, right? Well probably. Others have said yes it works but I need to check when I get home. But Gorilla Girlz took someone in the player community yanking an old version of some animation files from a previous installation and making an override file so they walk like they are supposed to.
Why do you need to hack a game to make it work the way the developers designed it?
o_O
There are other things that don't work anymore that are less annoying for me because, well, we were hacking to do things the game wasn't designed to do anyway. So that not working doesn't bother me. But, come on, if you break the stuff you put in there to begin with one has to wonder if you test anything to any degree of completion.
My guess is no.
I've been doing QA work for my job lately. I don't want to do it when I get home. x_x
Still love the game. Wanna go home and play with my kitties and puppies now, damnit!!!
