Wacky Pirateness

So, I think I may have scared [livejournal.com profile] tetsubun_otaku last night.

I started singing songs from The Pirates of Penzance non-stop.

Over instant messenger.

I then left to watch it. :-p I have a DVD of a theater production of it with Kevin Kline, Linda Rondstadt, and Rex Smith. Ruth isn't played by Angela Lansbury, though. Most of the rest of the cast is the same as the movie version. Even the police guy person. Thankfully the Major General was the same guy!! Well, I think the sisters are different... And some of the pirates...

So there's my piratey thing of the day.

Great show. Hope they release the movie movie version of it on DVD. Want it. Now would be good.

Heh. I have two copies of Pirates on VHS. One is the movie movie version with Ruth being played by Angela Lansbury, and one is of a college production of it with Ruth being played by, um, me. :) Love that show. Love it love it love it. I've been a G&S fan since I was a child, which should say a lot about what a geeky child I was. :)

Oh, and I have a third version as well, if you want to count "The Pirate Movie" starring Kristy Macnichol and Christopher Atkins. :)

I've never seen that, but I did just read about it on Amazon.com. :-p Random

My mom has a high school production with the part of Samuel being played by me. :-p Hehe

Hee! My ex-husband played Samuel in my production. He was my boyfriend at the time. There are some amusing interactions between us onstage. :)

Hehe. Understandable there.

Our Ruth was a true Contralto. She actually sang a lot of her stuff an octave lower than written. :-p It was really weird.

We got all sorts of props from the UofM G&S Society. Swords, hats, set stuff. It was great. They came to our show and told our Mabel she could sing with them anytime. Of course, after high school she started chain smoking and totally trashed her voice, but oh well. She sounds incredible in the show!

Hubs is a hyuge G&S fan!! I'm scared to let him find out about the Pirate Day thing 'cuz then I'll have to listen to his rant about how the cops aren't supposed to be tenors, etc....

Let me see if I recall this correctly: first time you see cops, they're tenors & baritones. Then the pirates come out & have all the tenors, with the baritones remaining as cops. Or something like that. Oy. I like G&S, but all I know is it's fun. :)

Heh. The cops in my High School production were all girls, except the constable. :-p

The music is written to have both Tenors and Bass/Baritones for cops and pirates both.

*shrug* I'm not the expert in the house. He's at work & seems to have missed the whoooole thing... ;) Who, me? Not let him in on something? Heh.

That is hilarious considering that Friday was International Talk Like a Pirate Day. http://www.talklikeapirate.com/

You must have been feeling the vibe.
