Whee! WoW!

So, my WoW guild decided we wanted to actually try to complete Kara, rather than just farm the first four bosses or so for badges. So, last night we went back for night 2 of our weekly raid (the instance resets on Tuesday, so it was the last night of the raid week) and took down a boss we've beaten before (Curator) and then proceeded to trounce a new to us boss (Aran). He took three tries, but we got him good. :) Curator dropped healy druid shoulders and the token good for druid gloves (and warrior and priest, but who cares about them?), but I didn't win either of them. ;_; The OTHER druid on the run won both. :p Very annoying. :p Aran dropped some crappy leather boots that nobody wanted (the trash drop boots in the instance are better, and that's what I am using) and a nice tanky ring which isn't as good as either ring I already have, but the other tank present on the raid nabbed it. He also dropped the Sunfire enchant.

I think one of the rogues kept going after that and stealthed to the Chess Event. Not sure if he made it or if he completed it though, as I had to go to bed at that point.

Five bosses left until we completely clear the instance. Granted, the Animal Boss we're likely to just ignore forever (it's optional and not worth it) and we probably won't do Illhoof too much (optional, but has a tentacle staff that I want to chase Gnomes with). We basically have Netherspite (technically optional), Prince Melchezzar (Final Boss) and Nightbane (optional and some think of him as the Final Boss, but he's more of a Quest boss in all honesty) and then we're done. Then we just farm the instance until we decide to move to Zul'Aman or we manage to get enough people to do Gruul and Magtheridon (not likely).

Last night rocked.

Though, I was really freakin' annoyed when the Other druid rolled on both. I mean, by the rules, it was a fair roll, but still. You got a freakin' epic on the run, let someone else have some.

Then I had to consider that if it was you, or someone else, I probably wouldn't mind so much. (Like the other tank getting the enchant and the ring... didn't bother me at all). So basically I had to stow my thoughts.

The teamwork, though, that was really nice.

Netherspite is going to be a real bitch. But I think if we can do through curator on one night, we can smack Aran, Chess and start swiping at Netherspite on the 2nd night.

We can always skip Maiden and/or Attumen if nobody needs anything from them. Granted, Maiden has a heal stick worth killing for and a neck piece that I seriously covet.

The progression path through the instance is Moroes - Opera - Curator - Prince - Nightbane. Everything else is optional, but clearing Aran is just smart work for getting through the Prince. We probably would have gone faster if I had more experience deeper in. I didn't know how to chain pull past Curator, which slowed us down a lot. I can chain pull Attumen, Moroes, and Maiden practically in my sleep, and Opera trash is now a joke.

The Aran fight needs a little more finesse. I spent the fight in bear gear wishing I were in cat gear, because being in bear form for that fight was pointless. He only melee's if you lock all his schools out, and his melee is crap. No point in worrying about aggro on his fight. I think we could have taken him in the first fight if people had jumped him immediately. But I went back to bear gear (for the increase in hit points it got me) which seriously hurt my DPS during the fight.

Don't know if you do arenas or not either, but the season 3 feral gloves will also count as an interrupt for your catform Maim skill. Yes, it normally has an incapacitate, so why have it interrupt too, but the interrupt effect still takes even when mobs are immune to stuns.

Past Aran, the following three trash pulls are much less complex (though CC is a good thing still) and then you come to a room with disarming ethereal mobs which can be a bit tricky to pull one-by-one sometimes, and sadly are immune to CC and taunt.

Good luck clearing Kara in your future attempts. When you're calling Nightbane down after the Opera event, you know you've got the place on farm. :)

Yeah I don't do arenas at all. I'll do BGs sometimes, when I'm bored, but arenas aren't my thing.

We had tons of interrupts for our Aran fight. Rogue, warrior, two mages. We did pretty good. He didn't drink until he was at about 18% on health. There were only three or four of us left standing when he finally fell, but he still fell.

That's part of the reason why we're doing this, and why the Other Druid isn't always going to be the tank. Everyone needs experience in these parts. Including me, as I'm a Complete Nub from Aran on up.

I'm actually surprised as heck that we managed as well as we did with my b0rken leadership. Iz why teamwork is good. Cuz I always forget stuff. And it's okay to not know if you're with folks who are patient and willing to contribute.

Man, fuck Prince. Fuck him up his axe-throwing, infernal-totem-dropping, enfeebling ass.

I hates him soooooooooooooo much.

[identity profile] winterlady.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)

Roflmao... it sounds like you've had some personal experience with him. I take it I shouldn't look forward to him. ^_^

[identity profile] venturebears.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
How you deal with him all depends on what your role in the raid is. Ranged DPS? You have it easy. Tank? Pray for your dodge/parries/blocks, and have faith in your healers after phase 1. Melee DPS? Good luck! Prepare to get to know the dirt beneath you real well because you'll be having it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The problem, imo, is the infernal totem placement and their "random" placement. It never seems random. It seems that they intentionally drop in the worst fucking spots and box you in.
