jdotmi: (Slay This)
So, here's the story. Last night I abducted [livejournal.com profile] eligrrl and dragged her shopping with me. We went and had dinner at California Pizza Kitchen and then meandered on over to Best Buy. So far, so good. There had not been a BoneHeaded-Eli™ moment yet, but the night was young.

We got to the DVD section of Best Buy and started oggling anime in that "please wipe the drool off my chin" sort of way. We each saw at least four different boxed sets that we wanted. I controlled myself, however, and only picked up season 1 of Sailor Moon. [livejournal.com profile] eligrrl had no such trouble restraining herself from buying anything. She's poor. She can't afford it. Yet.

We wandered over to TV series boxed sets where I nabbed season 2 of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine for [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi. Ok, actually for both of us, but it sounds better to say it was a gift for him. :-p We then proceeded to drool over all the series we wanted. Soap. The Simpsons. Smallvile. Sex in the City. We couldn't get away from the "S" section apparently. Not sure what that was about, but oh well.

We then wandered over to the videogame section of the store where I managed to keep myself from buying anything. Mostly because The Temple of Elemental Evil was sold out. That and I was already spending $200 on DVDs, so, I passed.

We head up to the check out line, still devoid of any BoneHeaded-Eli™ moments. It was now or never, really. If something were to go down, it would go down while standing in line with about 25 people surrounding us.

So, we were still discussing Anime and her more or less newfound love of the stuff. We reminisced about our friend Dean who was a Sailor Moon junkie way back in the day and how he made her watch his VHS tapes of it at his apartment one time and she fell asleep on his couch. To which I replied: "You do that a lot."

It's true, too! She can fall asleep at the drop of a dust particle. There are pictures of her sleeping in a comfy chair in my dorm room. Of course, where said pictures are I have no idea, but I'm sure I have the film somewhere.

Sadly, she had to agree with me. "Yeah. Sometimes we go over to our friend Tom's place to watch anime and I wind up falling asleep in this really comfortable chair he has. It's like I become this total necrophiliac or something!"

*beat*

I stare at her. She continued talking, but I have no idea what she said. Slowly, a look of slight fear spread across her face and she said: "What?!?"

Me: "Necrophiliac?"

*beat*

Red starts spreading from her nose to her ears slowly. She covers her mouth with her hand and her eyes start to widen.

Me: "Narcoleptic much?"

This is when the giggle-fit begins in earnest. She was firmly convinced she had said the right word when she said it. And, yes folks, she had thought that "Necrophiliac" was the word she was looking for. It took us 20 minutes to recover.

This BoneHeaded-Eli™ moment was brought to you by the letter "N", and all the disturbing places it can go.
