Ok. So, if you don't know EverQuest this post will make about as much sense to you as a discussion about the finer points of quantum physics in the Star Trek universe. Actually, that might make sense...

Anyrate.

So, picture this group setup. 36 Warrior. 32 Bard. 36 Necro. 34 Necro. 30 Necro. 31 Druid (me). We're going to go beat up on lots of Undead things. The Druid (me) should have had no stress at all with this setup. Crowd control, good tanking, great pulling, and lots of incoming mana should I need it. Right? ... RIGHT???

...

Wrong...

First off. Bard? AC and hitpoints around the level of a wet glob of snot. The few times he actually got hit I saw huge drops in HP levels. Nevermind I don't think he figured out they moved his auto-attack key a week ago. Pretty sure he got powerleveled from 1 to 30 without ever upgrading his equipment after level 15. He had know idea what songs to use. Never once tried to do crowd control. Could not play a song and attack at the same time. In general, he sucked.

Necro1. This guy rocked. This guy went on my friends list. I had played with him before and he was very good about telling me exactly how things would work. He did an excellent job. He gave me mana. He only got aggro once, and that was because if he didn't we probably would have lost the Warrior. In general, great player.

Necro2. ... I don't know what this guys problem was. He was meleeing the mobs. He was using his gutter heal spell on ME of all people. He was wasting time bandaging people instead of medding up so he could transfer mana to the Druid who could heal 300 hp per spellcast. He spent most of the beginning of the adventure asking for rusties for his pet.

Necro3. ... I don't think this guy did anything other than sit down in bad spots. He did eventually start giving me mana. His pet did decent damage. He rarely got aggro'd on, aside from when he wouldn't sit down and let the tanks pull.

Warrior. ... Ok. Picture this. You are at 50% health. You're in a group with 1 other possible tank who has already proven that he can't even pretend to tank. Yeah, it's a bard and shouldn't be expected to, but if need be it could. Nevermind the guy didn't know how to turn on autoattack or use Chant of Battle (or whatever the current level of that song was). Now imagine, if you will, that your only healer, who happens to be THE DRUID, says "10mana". What would you do? Seriously? What would you do? "Pulling. Probably gonna be two."

At this point, Necro1 and I start exchanging tells. Stupid factor got to both of us. Thankfully, we all managed to survive long enough to complete the collection on the Adventure. Sadly, the Warrior opted to pull while at 60 health and we got a wanderer in our room at just that time. There were 3 mobs at that point. Then two more show up.

I hit the key marked "evac".

Warrior had 17% left when we reloaded at zone in.

Warrior congratulated me on a well timed evac.

Warrior is lucky we don't live on a Zek.

Port with only good necro, kill the rest. Claim Transporter malfuntion, and that you have to polarize the tachyon beams.

Heh. I considered it. I also considered porting the group to some random druid ring and letting the druids sort 'em all out. Sadly, the warrior and the bard wouldn't be KOS to the druids. :-p

That and I really don't want to get banned. :-p

Ok I know I said I thought EQ sucked when I first played it. But would you mind running around with a lowly level 1 sometime?

How many hours total did it take you? I might give that a try.

Right now I'm enjoying grouping in LDoN. I've really only had two shitty groups. One was a four person where one bailed. Poor Skizz. He got completely wasted by some orcs and there wasn't a damn thing I could do. x_x

Yeah. Skizz was the only "tank" left on that run. :-p Ru + Chanter + Sizz != balanced party.

But, yeah, I'll give that a looksie when I get there. If I'm lucky it'll be next week or the week after.

well as with anything you need a good group to really make the xp fly. all you need is a good cleric and a couple good melee classes one preferrably being a warrior to tank it up. I spend most the day sunday and gained 4 levels. i think gaed gained about 3 that day too. The guy is an instant spawn that doesn't aggro and no faction hits. So as soon as you kill the first one another is up. The corpse has a 30 second timer (no loot on corpse) we had 3 corpses on the ground a few times. That's how fast we were killing him. That was a really good group too. I hardly had my attack music off. I think we took a break after an hour or two. One thing it can get boring cause you're hardly moving and just killing the same guy over and over again. (oh yeah make sure someone snares the dude so you do't have to move) Anyway good luck with him if you decide to try him out. I expect they might nerf him soon but we'll see.

Holy son of a . . .

That's it, they need to implement IQ tests to get a character past 30.

Gahhh I can fully sympathise with you on this.I dont want to remember the horror stories I have been through. While my main is a bard,I do know when not to fight even though my toon can if need be,she much prefers being the resident "mana ho" and speed buffer.Gonna have to start playing her more.

See, if the bard had been manasonging and/or buff songing I wouldn't really have had a problem. But a lot of times he was sitting there like a lump on a log.

Admittedly, he did clue in pretty fast that healing song would be a good one to twist if he was going to twist.
