Yesterday was a nice day off for me. They're pretty rare, so I definitely enjoy them when they happen! Of course, it being Thanksgiving here in the US means that I didn't really have the day to myself, but that's all good.

I called home in the early afternoon. Surprisingly, my Mom (aunt) was actually home! Normally they go up north to visit my uncle's Mom, but since my Mom (aunt) had been sick the week before they stayed home. So her oldest son came over with his wife and kids and they made Thanksgiving dinner and we chatted for a bit.

Later, [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi and I went to his sister's place to have dinner with her family and her in-laws. It was a very good dinner, too! Had too much turkey and mashed potatoes and gooey butter pumpkin cake. Played Mario Kart on the DS with [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi's brother in law and proceeded to kick his ass as the Shy-Guy versus his Yoshi. Did I mention I haven't played any Mario Kart games since the first one? Heh.

And noiw, today, I am stuck at work (due to my wierd work schedule and it being a holiday week), and have been very productive and will not be able to be quite so productive once 10:30 hits and we're no longer allowed to call stores. Heh. Crazyness.

I shocked people on Wednesday, too. I logged in to WoW to play with my salt-shaker. :-p Such confusion was had by [livejournal.com profile] winterlady and other guildies. I would have gone to do some grinding, but I was just letting [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi have to TV to watch Jericho for an hour before going back to Final Fantasy XII.

Speaking of, my main party is all level 35 right now in that game. And I have three Espers, including one of the optional hidden Espers. Espers are fun to summon, but not very practical in use. Especially because of the way the XP system in the game works. And I can get more damage out of a Quickening Chain against bosses than I could with an Esper summoned. It's time to continue the storyline in the game now, though, since I need to wait a bit before I can continue with the various Hunts I have and the side quests. I could work on a couple side-quests, and if I was really bored I could go get the Zodiac Spear, but I want more story.

Anyrate, enough babbling. I have work to do, so back to work I go!

"Mom (aunt)" ? Were you raised by your aunt? Or was there some oddity of one of your parents marrying the other's sibling in some sort of Hamlet-inspired drama? ;) (I did have an uncle who was married to one aunt, and years after she passed away, he married one of my other aunts).

I was raised by my Aunt. My parents both died when I was five, and I wound up with one Aunt and Uncle until I was 7, and then wound up with Mom who then years later married Bill, who is just Bill. Or sometimes "Dad" if I'm about to do something really mean to him like squeeze him so hard he can't breathe. :-p

This is where [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi lucks out with the entire being a full-time student and not working bit. I'm at work or in-transit from 6:30am to 6:30pm on most days, so he has the TV all to himself at those times. ;)

I'm only 60 hours into the game. So, he's got maybe a week or two of me being obsessive on it. ;)

nintendo DS

do you like the DS? Carl went and bought one last weekend and we both love it. He also got Final Fantasy III for himself and Brain Age for the 2 of us. We've also decided that we have to get me one for myself.

Glad to hear that your holiday is good. Hopefully work for you won't suck too much.

I don't own one yet. I want to get one only for Final Fantasy III. It was fun to play, but I only looked at one screen anyway. The second screen was sorta pointless for me. :-p

But, yeah, I wouldn't mind getting one.

I'm about 65 hours in, but I keep stalling on the plot to get more hunts, more License points or more levels. Or explore areas. I like completed maps ;)

Are you before or after Archades?

I found an Esper in the Wastelands, but he kicked my ass. That was like 4 levels ago (my party was 32/33), so I'm going to go back and try him again. I think there's one in the Sochen Cave Palace (no strategy guide here), but I haven't figured out how to get to it. Something about walking in a circle of the Sun ...

I <3's the game so far!

I'm in Archades right now (actually almost done with it). The Sochen side-boss isn't available until after Archades, I think.

I know where all the Espers are at, but there's only one non-story Esper at my level (40/41) that I think I can get, but I'm waiting until I can get Curaja and -ga black magic spells. The first one you can get at 30 to 35, provided you can take out the high 30's monsters in most of Zertinan Cavern to get to him. I found him by accident when I was exploring and he keeled me dead the first time I saw him. The better you are with your Quickening chains the better (I Black-Holed King Bomb!). I bought Golden Amulets for my entire party and stole 5 of the double XP accessories as well.

Basically, all of the dungeons you can re-visit have either an Esper or a Superboss located in them, if not both. And most of them have multiple hunt targets in them as well.

It's not as confusing as it sounds. ;)

I'm not very good with Quickening chains. To kill the King Bomb, I kept one person Silencing him and beat the snot out of him with Ice spells, and Ice Sword and the Uber Defense. I have every person with all the White magic and starting Green magics, so everyone casts Regen, Protect and Shell on themselves (as gambits). And I've ground out the entire Augmentation section, so my party is Buff.

The Wasteland esper is a pain -- When the battle starts, it trumpets to you that a field is present that won't let you use Items. So you have to have a good amount of magics to keep people propped up. He counterattacks a lot, so distance weapons and magic attacks are key. He has Reflect, so you have to dispell or have an Opal Ring.

I'll head back to the Caverns tonight, then, and see if I can collect another one ;)

Take some Chronos Tears with you. ;) It has a super-spell (Thundaja) that randomly inflicts Stop on you. And he gets lots and lots of helpers crawling out of the ground to try to kill you. And he flies (no melee for you!). Other than that, he's cake. Get him down to 50% or 33% health left and then start trying Quickenings (or, heck, another Esper) to finish him off.

He's in the central area of the caverns. Believe me, you'll know when you've reached his section. ;)
