Comics Galore!

Today was a shopping trip to Staidum Cards & Comics, where I picked up a bunch of books. And a starter pack for the WoW CCG.
Comics stuff and spoilers below the cuts.
Teen Titans #41: REBORN!
I haven't really followed Teen Titans much beyond the things I've read in forums and on Wikipedia. I started getting interested in them about a year ago, but I wasn't actively buying comics at the time. This issue is really the end of a story arc and is a weird place to enter into the story. I quite enjoyed it, however. The artwork is good for most of it, except towards the end when Cass and Tim look like their faces are melting. And, barring some editorial decision to change a name, there's a typo on a photo of Kid Devil's nemesis, as well. There's also a side story in the middle set in the cartoon Teen Titans universe which is, well, a bit precious. And I mean that with all the sarcasm that word entails. It's way too Afterschool Special meets Indiana Jones. :p
My favorite character in the book is easily Miss Martian. Going to need to keep picking this one up for sure.
Wonder Woman #3
This title has had delay after delay after delay, and now has the added insult of being a bi-monthly publication. The artwork is spectacular. The storyline, however, is convoluted and, well, honestly, stupid. I've seen the first two issues, and the overall story makes sense, but it's the stuff filling in the blanks that isn't making any sense. And it is so far behind the rest of the DC Universe in continuity now that it's very frustrating. Especially since Diana as Wonder Woman has been in so many other titles already and she's never gotten into costume in this title yet!
Batman #658: Batman and Son Part 4
Again, I've shown up at the end of a storyline. The opening of the book was pretty cool, and the artwork is great, but the kid just needs to be killed off already, and I can't believe that Talia is really that fucking stupid. She KNOWS Batman (in so many ways), and knows there is no way in hell he's going to hook up with her anymore. Whatever, this is apparently the tail end of this story arc, and I'm sure bits of it will come back later, but I'm looking forward to the next arc.
Supergirl #11 and #12
So, I missed the first three "One Year Later" Supergirl stories, and have had to subsist on forum posts and Wikipedia entries to catch up on those. I've got issues 9 and 10 already, and they were really good. I've been loving the artwork and the story.
Issue #11 has a different artist doing the drawing, and he makes Supergirl look like a Baywatch Bimbo. I'm not even kidding. I mean, plus side is that the girl has more curves than most Gran Turismo race tracks. The down side is SHE LOOKS LIKE GENUINE MOLDED PLASTIC. Aside from that garbage, he can't be bothered to draw any other character the same way in any two panels on the same page. Most of the characters just look obscene. This has the unfortunate side effect of taking me straight out of the story, which is actually kinda cool. There's a great resolution flashback (from a flashback Kara had in issue #9), and a really big teaser at the end with the intro of Power Boy.
Issue #12... is a side story that happened after #10... It is, in reality, a painfully obvious promo vehicle for the new Terra. And it causes a nice bit of backslide from the actively moving forward Kara of #11 back to the sometimes whiny bitch who doesn't want to be a hero she had been in 9 and 10. And for all of the posts I've read saying "OH MY GOD IT HAS AMANDA CONNER DOING PENCILS" I look through it going "WTF? Did I pick up an issue of Archie or something??" Fortunately, the story is good. The villain sucked, but Terra was cool, in a "freak of nature" sort of fashion. And Kara... Well, she's finally getting the wanting to be a normal teen-ager out of her system for good, I think. And the last few pages with her and Boomer in her apartment are both hillarious and moving at the same time. Especially his reaction to her statement of "I met a girl tonight". That line was followed somewhat later in the conversation by Boomer's statement of "People were in danger while you were dancing? You really don't have the hips for that..."
All in all, I'm pretty happy with the books I picked up. I'm thinking of starting a regular pull list with Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Supergirl, JSA, Birds of Prey, and Teen Titans in it. We'll see, though.
