Sunday, June 13th, 2004.
This post begins an hour or so before June 13th started here in Michigan, as that is when I woke up groggily to get ready for work.
You see, when I wake up for work on Sundays, I am not quite with it. I'm incredibly groggy and disoriented. Partially due to it being, well, NIGHT, and partially because I've usually slept since around 2 in the afternoon. It's not the best way to do things generally speaking.
So, I woke up. I took a shower. Not a particularly long or involved ordeal, but a shower regardless. Petted the kitties, or at least William. Got my stuff together for the day, and headed out the door.
I got to work and relieved the woman who had relieved me a mere 12 hours earlier. I then sat down and got to work on what could be termed the Most Boring Night Ever. See, there isn't a lot for me to do on Sundays at this job. Most of it is spent waiting for something to do. So, I hopped online, checked out CNN, checked out LiveJournal, checked out people on AIM and ICQ. Futzed around on my laptop, did some work, futzed around some more, did some more work, read some of my book, did some more work.
The highlight of my shift? Nothing died. The previous day I had screwed up by not realising a system had not come back up correctly when I booted it up so I had to completely cycle it to get it online. Sunday, however, was picture-perfect (read dull). No phone calls, no problems, nothing crashed. I suppose ordering pizza and soda from Papa John's which decided to behave like chewey ex-lax could be considered a problem, but it wasn't a work-related problem.
My replacement arrived a little before 8. It's surprising. Being made full time seems to have made him punctual. There was a period of time for a few months were he would be 5 to 15 minutes late at least one of the two days he worked there. So, I got out of there and drove to the ATM by Briarwood Mall. Got cash out, since I was cashless and needed breakfast. Headed to McDonalds and got said breakfast, and proceeded to regret food the rest of the day. See, I had hoped that just maybe I had been imagining the food as ex-lax episode earlier. I was proven wrong by breakfast.
Work at Borders on Sundays is slow, typically, but it's more or less steady. It's kinda hard to catch up with stores to see if things are fixed because they are typically busy and slightly understaffed on Sundays. It's not as bad as on Saturdays, but it's still noticeable. So, I took some incoming calls, hooked up my laptop to listen to music, and read some more things online. The highlight of the day was me using the Hero Builder by Lil Pip for City of Heroes on the laptop to design different builds for my Energy/Electric Blaster.
When work got out, I went and gassed up my car ($1.96 a gallon, shocking!) and headed home. I arrived home to find dinner waiting for me (hot dogs and diet pepsi), cats wanting to be fed, and then I went online to play some City of Heroes. Did a couple missions as Kung Ru with a guy who I group with frequently. During this I had all my chat programs open and was now-and-then chatting with folk. I proved, yet again, that I am utterly incapable of carrying a conversation with someone who I don't know that well unless they initiate said conversation. Was slightly amused by the storm that rolled through the area. Cleaned the sink in my bathroom. It had hair in it from when I cut my hair the other day. Three damp paper towels and a lysol towlet later and it's nice and clean. Then I played really briefly as my Energy/Electric blaster. Opted to take Hasten at level 8. Still debating being a teleporter with him, though.
After that was all done, I opted to read a little and go to bed. So, I read a chapter or so in my book, then went to sleep.
And that was a very boring day in my life.
