Well, I would see if I have any belated birthday wishes to go through, but LJ seems to have crapped all over the birthday listing page. Oh well. x_x

Margaret Cho: "Pussy With Screw On Bottom"
Thursday night after work I headed over to [livejournal.com profile] amberthistle's place for a visit and to drag her, along with [livejournal.com profile] eligrrl and [livejournal.com profile] belinus, to see Margaret Cho at E.M.U.'s convocation center. [livejournal.com profile] amberthistle wasn't able to stay (crowds = BAD) but the rest of us stayed for the show.

It rocked. I can't really describe it, but it did. I'd go more into it, but between the exploding pussy, the pussy cracking corn, and the pussy with the bow I don't think I could do it justice.

A Day Off?
I don't work at Borders on Fridays anymore. This is... odd... I managed to sleep in til about 9 am or so before the attack cats pried me out of bed to feed them. Stupid attack kitties. Got up, had a sandwich, had some waffles, watched some (ok, a lot) of Sailor Moon. Spent time with [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi, which was a definite plus. :-) Then napped, watched more Sailor Moon, and went to work at midnight. :-p

Visitations:
Went over to the House Of Ill Repute v2.0™ (aka the dwelling of [livejournal.com profile] templar_rose, [livejournal.com profile] brigittefires, and [livejournal.com profile] rainbowravenx) on Saturday. Chatted some, introduced John's daughter to Japanese Sailor Moon. Stole back my Werewolf storyteller's handbook and Ghouls book. Put my cell phone number into his cell phone, although I'm not sure if he'll notice. :-p Left there to go to work again.

Work:
Got to work at midnight Sunday morning.

I'm still at work.

Well, okay. I'm at Borders. Yeah, remember where I said I don't work on Fridays anymore? Well, this is why. x_x

I've been up since 4:30pm yesterday... I'm here until 6pm... It's 9:15 now...

Hmmm. I saw that Margaret Cho show when she played in NJ a few months ago, and I was sort of underwhelmed. I absolutely loved Notorious C.H.O. when I saw it, but Revolution didn't really do it for me. Mind you, some parts (like the random pussy exclamations *g*) were hysterical. I don't remember well why I wasn't thrilled with the show, but I do remember that I thought she spent too much time on the scatological humor. Good that you enjoyed yourself though. :)

Hi, btw. :) I'm Mat. Found you friendsfriends, you sounded interesting, looked cute, so I added you to my friends list.

It wasn't as good as I'm The One That I Want, but I liked it better than Notorious CHO.

And, yeah, the entire car scene was just disturbing!! x_x Funny, but disturbing.... I think the general problem at our performance is she seemed a little low on energy. And the ending of the show was... eh... not a real ending. :-p But oh well.

"PUSSY CRACK CORN! And I don't care!" (that one killed me)

Thanks for adding me! ^_^ Nice to meet ya! *peers through your journal*

I watched the entire boxed set of Sailor Moon Season 1 between Tuesday Night and today... 3 discs worth doesn't seem like much. x_x

*bows to the Sailor Moon master* (I started to put "SM master", but that would just be misinterpreted *g*) I'm currently drooling over the season 2 set, but I'm not allowed to buy anything with my birthday coming up next week.

I just got paid on Friday, and Best Buy is on the way home...

...

*thwap*

Bad JD... :-p

And SM master could be amusing. Well, ok, it'd be a stretch. OK, it'd be a flying leap after a hundred meter dash off the Grand Canyon, but, hey, it'd be amusing! :-p

*G* I'm generally bad that way. It makes it really frustrating around birthday and xmas time when I suddenly CAN'T indulge my spending impulses.

On an only semi-related note, an article in this weeks Advocate made me cringe. They were doing an article on homosexuality in anime, and they refer to Usagi as "Serena" in the sidebar mentioning specific anime. Though on the other hand, the article itself called Haruka by her real name, not "Amara" (*gag*).

I haven't acutally seen any of the later seasons that got dubbed. Well, actually, I did see part of one where Chibi-Usa was getting pissed at Michiru (Michelle in English) cuz she was screwing up her flirting with a boy in her class. :-p

I have the Tokyopop paperbacks of the Manga. It has (creepily enough) the Americanized names of the characters from the seasons that initially got translated and the Japanese names of everyone else. o_o But they do call Usagi "Bunny" instead of "Serena". But there's "Molly" instead of "Naru" and "Melvin" instead of "Umino". And "Amy" instead of "Ami". :-p

But Haruka, Setsuna, Hotaru, and Michiru all kept their Japanese names. :-p

And "Darien" at least has a different name as a prince (Endymion, as per the original Japanese).

I've actually gotten used to the Japanese names now, so when someone uses an English name I get confused. :-p

I started out watching the dubs of season 2 on cable when I was in college. Of course, at that point not all of R was dubbed, so it got probably 80% done, then cycled back to the beginning of the first season. Of course, what was even more irritating was that when it got to the next-to-last ep of that season, the restarted it from the beginning!!! Now THAT was irritating.

I did watch S when it was on Cartoon Network though. Then got the dvd's when they came out and enjoyed it MUCH more subbed. I couldn't bring myself to watch much of SuperS; it's so awful. I've seen about half of Sailor Stars...I've got the whole thing sitting on my harddrive but haven't watched them.

I've thought about getting the manga, but haven't gotten around to it. Is it pretty good?

The manga is good, but it's a lot different. It doesn't have any real side stories to it. And there are major changes towards the end in terms of who characters are.

The princess thing? I've heard about that part at least...

That's actually one of the smaller changes. Heh. Let's see... Chibi Chibi is not the same at all in the Manga. The Sailor Starlights are chicks (all the time) but they do dress up as boys. Galaxia is totally different. The Amazoness Quartet have a nice (good) twist. Sailor Iron Mouse and co. have different backstories. The fight with Queen Beryl/Metallia is just against Metallia (Beryl's history is changed significantly). The Four Warriors of the Dark Kingdom have a major history change. Sailor Moon R (doom tree) doesn't exist.

That (almost) covers it pretty well. :-p

Oh, and Uranus and Neptune are lesbians, not cousins. :-p Although, I don't know if they just became cousins in the American version or if they were in the Japanese as well...

Well, of all those things, I knew about the Doom Tree thing. From what I've heard, that was put into the anime because it had caught up to the manga. The extra half-season of the anime gave delayed the storyline enough for the mangaka (whose name I can't remember and am too lazy to look up...something with a 'T') to finish with the real R.

And Uranus and Neptune are definitely lesbians in the original anime, though it's not terribly explicit. The phrase I love when describing the difference is: "In the original anime, they were lesbians. In the dub, they're incestuous lesbians!" *g* The dub refers to them as cousins, but even then it still quite obvious that they're an item *g*

Takeuchi Naoko (or Naoko Takeuchi as she is called in the American translations where they invert the name to match English naming standards).

And, yeah, R pretty much existed to lengthen the anime. Partially due to catching up and partially due to the manga being so much shorter. Seriously. Season 1 of Sailor Moon is 46 episodes... The same material is completed by Chapter 10 of the Manga, and Chibi-Usa shows up in that same chapter! O_o

So, yeah, that word.

Margaret rocks. There is no way to do her justice by description.

I have a friend who is into Sailor Moon a lot. Like, he even ran a very well known Sailor Moon Shrine site briefly and reviews the DVD collections for the site as well. Currently, he's been downloading the new Sailor Moon stuff... the live action episodes. I haven't seen or heard of any of this until he mentioned it. It frightens me to think about it, but I'm strangely intrigued and want to see it too.

Yeah, I saw the website, but it was all in Japanese and there wasn't much on it. I want to know what they look like. :-p
