I say it's semi-real because there is nothing interesting in my life to update about. Well, actually, there could be. However, I am stuck in SSX 3 land right now.

So.

I'll talk about that!

As I have already mentioned, the game kicks ass. Maybe not in so many words. But the fact that hitting the space bar on my keyboard stings slightly because my thumbs hurt when I hit the space bar. Anyway.

The opening movie gives you a good idea about what is to come. If you've watched any of the trailers, you'll know what I mean. Once that's done, you can select to do a single event, which is basically a quick run in any event that is unlocked on the memory card, or go "Conquer the Mountain", which is where the bulk of the gameplay lives. Select the mode, then select the rider. The front end is very minimal and is designed to get you into the game quickly. If you are just starting for the first time, the game drops year up in the mountain near the first ski lodge. At this point, you're playing!

The game is very open and you can pretty much do whatever you want. You can explore the courses without doing any events or you can go straight into racing, big air, or slopestyle (replacing showoff) events.

Big Air, while really fun, is really hard. You almost have to start this one with a bit of a trick meter. Otherwise you won't be winning it. :-p

The race courses are huge. The trick courses are huge. And they're not the same courses! One of the things the developers mention is that they don't repurpose any of the racetracks for the trick events. Each course is designed for what you use it for. Great fun.

I've been playing as Elise, but I did do a quick run as Nate, and [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi played as Psymon for a race. The riders are all equal, so it's really just a matter of preference. The only difference is that each character does have a "signiature" uber trick, although these can be purchased by other players. I almost got Pirrouette Grind for Elise, just cuz that would be disturbing.

So. What did I do in my six hours of gameplay last night? Well, I got Elise some nifty new accesories that change her looks, but not stats. Pumped all of Elise's traits up to the halfway point. Completed most of the first peak, and played the first race of the second peak. I also unlocked the "Seeiah" skin.

Yes, I said "skin". There are unlockable "cheat characters" that you can purchase or enter codes for. They are not, however, complete riders in of themselves. Instead, they fit over your current rider. You can't customize their clothing, though. The use their default outfit from whatever game they come from. They use your rider's stats and moves, just not their voice. In fact, they don't use any voice at all, which is kind of a bummer. The list, though, includes all the characters from SSX and SSX Tricky that are not in this game, as well as a few other nifty things. You know, like a Beaver.

It's kinda cool, actually. You'll race against all these people now and then in different events. I've had races against Marisol and against Luthor and against Seeiah. I haven't had Brodi show up yet, but he's in there.

Hmm. What else to write about.

The level of customization in this game is leaps and bounds beyond that in the previous two. You can customize the music, your rider's appearance, and your uber trick lineup. The appearance thing is probably the most noticeable. You can buy different hair styles, hats, tops, backpacks, gloves, pants, boots, and even other random things. You can get a Pumpkin Head, a Paper Bag Head, a Skeleton Head, and a Balloon head. There's more that I haven't gotten to yet, but that's what I've seen so far.

Well, I don't want this to be a "this is what you can do in this game". So I'm going to stop now.

Oh. Yeah. Only thing I don't like about the game.

My sore thumbs.

well sorry to hear about your hands... luckily I can play games for hours upon end... I played SSX Tricky one Saturday form 9 in the morning until about 7 in the evening... I finished 3 characters with all golds and finished all trick books... I have gotten it down so that I can actually finish trick books before I am have way threw all the courses... I can do a character in about 3 or 4 hours of play... but seems like 3 will be more challenging, goody... side note my best showoff run is over 1 million points, I have kind of quit after reaching that, it was my goal for a LONG time... wow that is a lot of nothing about one game, oh well :o)

Heh. I can finish a Tricky trick book in two races. x_x I am truly insane.

I'm not sure what my best showoff score is... I'm pretty sure I've blasted my way through Tokyo Megaplex a few times...

Seeing as how my partner's sister has our copy of Tricky right now, I can't find out either. :-p

one... NEVER lone out SSX any version, HELLO... I don't care if you have the newer one... second, is that even possible to get them done in the second race... I mean sometimes there are just too many flips and turns for the lameness of their trick manuvers (that is spelled wrong but not sure how)... I beleive you and am totally impressed... I think it would be fun top play against you, I have never met anyone remotely close to my ability level let alone possibly better.. third, you are not insane, just know a good game when you see it, haha.. if you are insane then I am too... (can I add you to my friends list?).. LATA

I actually finish the first three chapters on heat 1 of race 1. I complete most of the rest on heat 2, aside from those things that I just can't spin fast enough. I put all my XP in tricks at the end of the race and can then complete it on race 2.

The only person who I can't do this for is Luther. He's just too slow.
