No Two Sides

I don't know about you, but I'm not counting on the democrats to bail out gay marriage either.

Personally, I am a libertarian. I don't believe that married couples should have more rights and liberties than unmarried or unionized gay folk. I think marriage as a government institution should be abolished all together since by it's existence it creates 2nd class citizens of those who wish to live an unmarried life.

Leave it as a religous entity to be dealt with outside of the state.

And on a side note, it was Bill Clinton in 1997 who signed the "Defense of Marriage Act" (http://www.rdrop.com/~half/Creations/Writings/Rants/Rants-GayMarriage.html)

DOMA is old news and will not stand up in court, barring heavy corruption. It is, in no uncertain terms, directly contrary to the 14th ammendment.

While I may theoretically be all for "getting rid of it all together", that is equally ludicrous. There is a point where attempting to invalidate thousands of years of human history (where "marriage" has more or less always had legal benefits and responsibilities) is like telling us to stop breathing oxygen.

Are you telling me that you believe that married couples should have to fight a deceased spouse's family tooth and nail to keep the things that they earned while married? Do you think they should have to sue a hospital in order to be given the right to see their critically ill and/or dying spouse? Because, to be perfectly frank, that is what it will come down to.
