Happy belated birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] shadesong, [livejournal.com profile] n8an, [livejournal.com profile] mercsailor, and [livejournal.com profile] griffonisrex!

Gaming Rambling:
We played some Werewolf last weekend. We may have one or two more sessions left in the current chronicle and may actually be finishing it the 27th and 28th. [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi and I are taking the time off as vacation time and we may actually head out to [livejournal.com profile] lilacmoon5's place to finish it up. After that, it'll be time for Shadowrun. I guess that means I actually need to finalize my character. :-p

Neverwinter Nights:
Still playing. Still building. I actually have a completed module, but it's too short and a lil too difficult. Going to have to work on that some. What will probably wind up happening is I'll rebuild it. That won't be too bad. I already have an idea for what to do. I know what needs to be made for it and I know what order to do things in.

Weird Dreams:
These were really one dream, but it just had a couple different parts to it. The "real world" part of it was me on a city street outside a cafe eating and [livejournal.com profile] wicked_wish going by with a big ice-cream cone with blue ice-cream (soft serve) trying to eat it before she had to get on a bus. She couldn't finish it, so she handed it to some other girl to finish and went to get on the bus, but the bus left with 20 people standing next to it waiting to get in without letting anyone on. She was bummed.

Now, still real-world here, but watching a big wide-screen TV which was showing the series premier about some TV show about a bunch of rich women who lived in some rich and lavish houses and I think it may have ahd something to do with saving the world and it starred [livejournal.com profile] shadesong. o_o

Oh, and while that was on, the girl that [livejournal.com profile] wicked_wish gave her ice cream to decided she didn't want it, so dumped the ice cream in the trash and gave me the cone to eat.

And on that note, now that I forgot about this four times in the last hour, I'm posting it.

Thank you!

Okay: Give it to me straight - how addictive is creating modules on Neverwinter Nights? And how hard?

Addictive isn't the right word. Addictive would indicate there is some sort of treatment for it.

I would say it isn't that hard, but you're not a complete computer nerd like me. The actual making creatures and items and areas and plopping them all down isn't horrible. It's getting conversations working, events working, scripts working, and the general story working that is problematic. The scripting language it uses is similar to C or C++. Not knowing either language, I'm not sure which it is most like. Of course, it isn't either language, it's a custom language created just for NWN.

It took me a very long time to get used to it and get able to do some things with it. Fortunately, there are now some incredible user made tools that will help you make the scripts. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't know how to do half of what I've done with my module.

It's a lot of fun, but my short module, which consisted of three "dungeons", two outdoor areas, and a town, took me almost 3 weeks to make. And it's still not right. It's too hard with combat and there are only two quests in the entire thing.

(if I bother you, just say so and I'll stop pestering)...

So, basically, it's hard to do, and takes a lot of work just to get a bit. By "quests" I'm assuming you mean sub-plots or something?

How limited is the creation - do you only have X number of baddies to play with (ie: Kobolds, goblins, etc, which are generic) - or can you create levelled villains (ie: A Kobold Sorceror 5 leading four Kobold Warrior 1s)?

Ditto settings - do you have a varied resource for making the city/dungeon/whatever? Gosh I'd love to create Coralport... *twitch*...

There is a large selection of pre-made creatures to choose from. You can also customize any creature you want. A creature can have up to 3 character classes (including it's "monster" class) and can have up to a total of 60 levels. So, yeah. You can make a 4th level Sorcerer who just happens to be a Kobold. In fact, one of the Henchmen in the two expansion packs is a Kobold Bard (and Red Dragon Disciple in XP2 ^_~).

I don't remember the exact number of tilesets that exist for area creation. Off the top of my head I know there are City Interior, City Exterior, Castle Interior, Rural, Forest, Mines and Caves, Dungeon, Winter Rural, Icy Wastes, Desert, Ruins, and I think a crypt one. There's also a "micro set" that is really only useful for debug areas.
