Happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] uberspoon!

Shopping:
So, we just had Employee Appreciation weekend. I made three trips to the store during it. I spent over $400 after a 40% (20% on DVDs) discount.

We aren't buying anything until September. :-p Food. Gas. That's about it.

Picked up a book for [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi and a book for [livejournal.com profile] margaras last night on my way home. Cheapest trip yet. :-p

My loot from the event?

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Watcher's Guide - Volume 3" - Guide to seasons 5 through 7
Sailor Moon R - Second season, Japanese with subtitles
"The Complete Divine" - Overpriced splatbook
"Expanded Psionics Handbook" - Overpriced steroid abusing splatbook

I could almost count Star Trek: Deep Space Nine seasons 6 and 7 with my loot, but they're more for [livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi. I liked DS9 (and Next Generation), but it's not really something I can sit down and watch in large chunks like, oh, say, Buffy. :-p

City of Heroes:
I took the weekend off of CoH. O_O This is dangerous. Normally if I take a break from an MMORPG, I never go back. :-p I'll play tonight, though. I want to get Kung Ru to 25, but that requires eating through 5 bubbles of debt with no missions. :-p It's like level 19, but without Clockwork. :-p

Entertainment:
So, what did I do if not CoH you ask? Simple. I watched every episode of Sailor Moon R. :-p Every. Single. One. Yeah, I'm insane like that. I also watched Spiderman again...

Friday night, after meeting [livejournal.com profile] dianak at Borders, we even headed off to watch Spiderman 2! We both agreed that one of the fight sequences alone was worth the price of General Admission.

I've still got one more showing of Spiderman 2 to attend. :-p Provided [livejournal.com profile] carebear_flare and I can work out a time for it. :-p Then I will be content to wait for it's arrival on DVD before watching it again. ^_^

[livejournal.com profile] satyr_mi is going to kill me over this, methinks. ^_^

Worky Worky:
My right bicep is all wonky from bringing soda and water into work. Four six-packs of 24oz bottles. Bicep no likey me for that. I'm such a wimp. :-p So typing is fun. I can't really lift my arm off the desk without it complaining that I was insane to carry that many bottles on one arm from the middle of our large parking lot into the office and into my cubicle area. :-p

I'm only partly-ashamed to admit that I really enjoyed Sailor Moon, even with the transformation sequences making me wonder just how much new stuff I *could* be seeing instead of semi-nudie teenage girls.

Sadly I only saw it on Cartoon Network, so goodness knows what I've missed or what was English-edited *out*. Maybe I'll check out Netflix.. and watch it when no one's around. ;>

Well, off the top of my head...

Rae's grandfather was a dirty old man who always flirted with the young girls.

The transformation sequences had lines removed that clearly defined breasts.

Several episodes were never shown in the US.

Then there are the random name changes. There was no reason for Sailor Moon to be called Serena or Serenity. Her name is Usagi (Bunny/Rabbit, the americanized manga calls her Bunny). Sailor Jupiter has the only Japanese name that really had no decent route of translation (Makoto), so making her Lita wasn't horrible. Sailor Mercury more or less kept her name (Ami/Amy), Sailor Mars kept hers (Rae/Ray), Sailor Venus even kept hers (Minako/Mina). Also, Tuxedo Mask's real name issues are hillarious. They call him Darien, and Prince Darien in his past life, which makes zero sense in terms of him not recognizing his own name later. Yeah, Mamoru doesn't translate over to English directly, but Prince Endymion would be fine.

For the outer Senshi, Uranus and Neptune were not cousins. They were lovers.

Lots of references to sex were edited out. I'm not sure in the Doom Tree sequence, but there's a point where the girls are fighting over who should play Sleeping Beauty in a play and Mako(Jupiter) says that obviously she should since she has the biggest chest.

...

I could keep going but now I sound obsessive...

I won't stop you. Even in the "cleaned" up version, it was clear that the two of the three older sailor scouts .. ah Senshi.. were definitely intended to be 'gettin it on'

Time for a rental, methinks. Once I'm sure Netflix is sending things to my proper address! :>

I've seen Spidey 2 twice now and need to see it again, but because it was SO GOOD I don't know if I can go back and watch Spidey 1 ever again.

Which fight scene was your favorite? For me, it's a toss up between "Aunt Mae" and "Clock Tower/Subway". I really enjoyed (and was completely horrified by) the "Hospital" scene, which was probably the most horrific thing I've ever seen in a comic book movie ever. (The only thing I can think of that comes close is the Joker saying "wait'll the get a load of me!")

Trek vs. Buffy. I totally understand.

I can watch Spiderman over and over again without issue. It's a great movie. Spiderman 2 is the better of the two, yes, but it doesn't make me never want to watch the original again.

The train fight was worth the price of general admission. :-p The Hospital scene was scary once, but is too over the top on repeated viewings. As are several of the "Let's have a stupid woman run directly at the camera screaming her fool head off or have the camera run directly at her" moments. Went a little too far into the camp of some of the director's other works.

I was originally annoyed with the women screaming at the camera but now I think it's just fun. The hospital scene IS over the top, which is why I like it. I guess we can like this movie for different reasons, which is what makes this movie great!

I'll try watching Spidey 1 again. It did have it's moments. The balcony scene with Mary Jane was fun and it's always good to see Macy Gray every so often...

My problem with the "camp" is that it seemed decidedly out of place with the rest of the movie. There are campy moments in the first one, but they aren't quite as over the top as in the second one. The second one had campy moments that made me think I was watching a Joxer episode of Xena. If an entire scene played out that way it would be great, but it's this random interjection of "OHMYGOD IT'S A SUPERVILLAIN!! AIEEEEEE!" in the middle of an otherwise somewhat serious dramatic/fight scene that, well, made me roll my eyes. :-p

But the story and the action sequences? Fucking awesome!

I agree with the second part. I liked the screaming even though it was out of place. I even liked the parts with the girls who were swooning over Spidey every time he swung by. It was a bit dumb but I liked it anyway....cause a really great special FX shot usually followed.

I actually didn't mind the swooning girls, because it mostly fit. Okay, it was way silly with them crowding around Aunt May after the bank sequence, but still. :-p

I loved that part. It made me laugh even though everyone else was groaning. If I saw Spidey swing by, I'd probably swoon too!! (...although I am much more a 'fan' of Beast and Colossus...but that's a whole other discussion...)

If I saw a superhero, any superhero, go whizzing by my head, I'd be bee-lining for the nearest bomb shelter. They've always got supervillains on their heels.

Realistically speaking, you are right. But part of me would be too amazed to do anything but swoon.

Level 19 was a problem for you? On Saturday I got back into the game at level 19 with one bubble of experience. One Synapse Task Force later and I was 20, had Stamina and a shiny new Single Origin Endurance Reduction Enhancement, and gained my new costume slot, which I used for Thundergirl's civilian identity. Now when she spots trouble, recent high school graduate Amy Albright makes a mighty Thunder Clap, and, BOOM! transforms into Thundergirl. And, yes, I go to all the trouble of pulling down the costume selector, THEN clicking Thunder Clap, THEN selecting the costume EVERY SINGLE TIME. I've started "powering down" back to the secret identity using Steamy Mist's opening animation.

Yes, I am a geek. Yes, I grew Spock ears typing that.

Hehehe. You can actually write a macro that will do the same thing (power_exec Thunder Clap, cc 0 (or something like that)) /cc 0 is your first (char creation era) costume, /cc 1 is your second (1st tailor mission) costume.

And, yes, Level 19 as a scrapper soloing is hard. :-p I don't have the time or patience to do a Task Force with people I don't already know. And I spent almost all of Level 19 in debt because I got cocky taking on Assembler Princes in Land of the Lost.

Although, taking out a Babbage that some silly TF left floating around Skyway City was fun. ^_^ I got pictures of that event. ^_^
