Cutting this for spoilers for those further back in time than me.

So, opening credits first off. Tom Welling first, as always. Michael Rosenbaum second, as he always should have been. Kristen Kreuk third (no, Lana's not dead). Allison Mack fourth (yes, she moved up in the world). Erica Durance fifth. Aaron Ashmore sixth (Jimmy). Laura Vandervoort seventh (Kara). John Glover eighth. So, despite losing Annette O'Toole, they increased the cast size. It's the size it was in the first season (according to the opening credits anyway), but keep in mind that John Glover was only listed as recurring during season 1.

I'm quite surprised that Laura is in the opening credits. Not complaining, as it means she has at least 13 episodes, but it's surprising. Sorta surprised they didn't do trick credits like they did in Season 4 (with Chloe not in them) to hide the non-dead dead people.

The episode was good. Martian Manhunter's dialogue sorta sucked (oh, yay, platitudes), but everything else worked nicely. Some of the effects were awesome (Clark healing, the fight between Clark and Bizzaro), but some were just bad (the zoom in to Lana in China was atrocious and her greenscreen walk made me shudder). I know they can do better green screen than this. Heck, Kara flying was better looking than that shot, and her last flight was obviously an effect as well.

All in all, the episode was good. I can't believe Chloe is reluctant to talk to Clark about her power, although she's probably a bit freaked by it and by exactly what it is. I mean, she was pronounced dead after all. And Bizzaro coming on to Lois was hillarious, especially with Lois' non-confrontation with Clark in the house at the end of the episode.

Despite my hatred of the Lanazoom (mentioned above), the final sequence was actually very very nice. We pan from Lana going into her apartment and looking up to the moon (which is visible during the day for whatever reason in China) to Clark looking up at the moon at night in the barn, and then pan over to the Smallville Water Tower where Kara is finishing changing into the clothes that were left for her in a bag, where she then zooms off into the night only to spin around and do a fly by of the camera. I will admit I was ticked that she was getting the camera fly-by before Clark can do it, but it didn't suck in the episode. And we all remember the premier of season 4, anyway. You know, that one where every fanboy creamed his shorts as Clark took off at the farm? Yeah.

Well, I'm going to bed now.

I should cut-and-paste your post into an email to my wife. You see she's a big time Smallville fan who recorded the show tonight on our DVR, as she had some work to finish. That way I spoil the premiere for her.

Of course I'll be looking for a place to live come the weekend.

Yeah that'd probably not be a good idea. ;)
