jdotmi: (Ruann)

So, I'm back in EverQuest land for free for a bit now. I found some pictures that speak to some of the incarnations of Ruann in that post! Are you ready for this? There's also some other characters that may be familiar to some of my more recent online gaming friends...

Let's go to the oldest pictures available of Ruann. From her EQ days.

First, a sig-file image.

That quote on there? Yeah. I got lost all the freakin' time in EQ. Didn't matter where I was going, I was going to get lost. Sense Heading started at 1 for everyone, which meant you never had any freakin' clue which way was which. And I mashed that button to a stub getting my sense heading to 180 before they relented and auto-maxed it for everyone after I quit the game. And in the early days, Ru was still heavily influenced by her drag queen wizarding roots back in D&D, so yeah. I actually got a surprised reaction from the guy who ran that game ([livejournal.com profile] templar_rose) that I hadn't made her an Erudite Enchanter.

That was my forum avatar for her for a long time. Yeah, she was a bit cross-eyed back in the day. I'll have to log in and get some screenshots of her now so you can see her with the updated graphics engine (from the 3rd expansion to the game).

Now, side-tracking a bit. Since we're in old-school EQ picture time here.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] templar_rose made a pseudo-role playing guild in EQ called Via Sanguinius. Evil, obviously. So, we've got my EQ versions of two characters who have had some face time in World of Warcraft and even City of Heroes. Kalleesta actually started in the same AD&D campaign that Ruann did as Callista Matrilor, inspired by Callisto from Xena as a counterpoint (and cousin) to Sarina Matrilor, who was based on Red Sonja years and years before in all reality, but was always compared with Xena by the point that game was played since Xena had become all the rage then. Letalli is my oldest character, having been the damsel in distress Princess in the first original edition D&D game I ever ran. She alternates between being a good girl and being very very very bad. She was a shadowknight in EQ. Kalleesta was a Priest of Innoruuk, the God of Hate.

Now, back on the subject...

That image really covers it, now doesn't it? Dark Age of Camelot was fun. Crafting was useful (perhaps a bit overpowered back then), and Friars were just flat out fun!

I don't have any pics online from other games right now other than the stuff in my LJ Scrapbook. I know for a fact some are on my PC at home, though, so I will attempt to remember to post some tonight when I get home. But let me leave you with a blast from City of Heroes' past...

Every character on that image other than Kung Ru has been deleted. Some have been remade. And, yes, I really did have a huge number of shirtless/nearly shirtless male characters back then. ^_~ Back when you only had one costume slot and NO CAPES!
