It's still the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market, the reason sales numbers finally beat out the 360 for the past couple of months. Plus there are some of us out here who would rather do without a console than give another dime to Micro$oft. Having just played around with the Windows LIVE (the PC version of Xbox Live), there is no way in HELL I am going through all of that every time I want to play a damned game. And loosing the ability to connect with people FOR FREE over the net just seems stupid to me. PCs do it. PS3s do it. Wiis do it. Even the DS does it. But if you want to do it on an Xbox or Windows Live, you have to pay $20 a MONTH!? Yeah no.
We may not "need" a ps3, but "want" plays just as large a part in the decision making process. =)
Yeah the online play portion of xbox requiring a sub is annoying, but to be honest I don't EVER do online gaming on my 360. I can still pay for downloads and get free downloads and send messages to friends without it. And, well, to be honest you are giving money to M$ even if you buy a PS3 or a Wii. Do you really think they do all their development in Linux/Unix/Mac environments? :-p
And I'll buy a blu-ray player after I have a TV that it would be worth it to use it on. That's not going to be for a few more years now. Heh. My first DVD player was my original PS2...
Besides, for me "Need" is about what games are out for a system. Xbox360 has games that I want. Some exclusively. Others are cross-platform. I "Need" a wii cuz I can't get Mario Party or Smash Bros without it. I "Need"ed a PS3 for Final Fantasy XIII and Gran Turismo. Everything else really was cross platform.
I was looking forward to it, but not now. I don't typically buy multiplatform games, because I'm sick of people arguing to me about which version has slightly better textures or aliasing or color balance or better downloadable content, causing me to feel guilty about my purchase.
I don't imagine there being much downloadable content with a Final Fantasy game. Doesn't fit the way the games are developed. Maybe a New Game+ downloadable if it's not part of the default game, but I don't see Squeenix making it different based on the platform.

So NOT going to happen... That being said.. I'm quite content with the Forza franchise.
