So, here's the list of MMOs I have a current subscription on.

World of Warcraft (expires at the end of the month, will bring back when Cataclysm comes out)
City of Heroes
Star Trek Online

Here's the list of MMOs I want to try out when they get released.

DC Universe Online (November 2010)
Star Wars: The Old Republic (Unknown)

Here's the list of MMOs I would keep active if I won the lotto.

EverQuest 2
Champions Online

Here's the list of MMO* I will not touch with a ten foot electric cattle prod.

Final Fantasy XIV

Yeah yeah, content lite is my name today.

*: not a typo. crappy grammar, but not a typo

I think I read that EQII is going Free to Play at some point.

Ever try Lord of the Rings Online? It's a lot of fun and it goes Free to Play tomorrow.

Hadn't heard anything about EQ2 on that front. I would be surprised, because that means it'd be closing shortly after. SOE doesn't leave games up as free to play like that. Heh. They're kinda monsters that way.

Never did try LotRO. It never really interested me. Helps that I can't stand the books. Heh.

I see a bunch of hits on Google about "EQ2 Extended", a free web-frontend to some of EQ2's content (which I can't read because they're blocked at work). I'm pretty sure I read about it on the main EQ2 site a while back though when I looked out of nostalgia.

What I like about LOTRO is that the classes all play very differently from one another. Think about how in WoW a rogue's combo points plays differently than a death knight's runes....and pretty much apply that uniqueness to every class.

While the story of LOTR is very present in LOTRO, you don't have to be into it to enjoy the game :) Personally I like the story of LOTR, but I hate the writing style itself.

They set up some new servers that are Free 2 Play. But you only get a few classes and races. You can upgrade to Premium and get all the races and classes, but you are still stuck on the same server. I.e. if you want to play with real people who have played the game for awhile, this is not the way to go...
And I just cancelled my account. I am waiting at this point for DC Online. Of course I will do Star Wars as well. I think the GLA is going to form some sort of group for DC. But aside from the remaining time on my EQ2, I am currently MMOless. I HATE that!

Oh ugh. Now I remember reading that. It reminds me why I decided I wouldn't bother with it. The only reason I'd go in would be if I could bum around on my old characters and see how things had changed. Segregated servers means no go for me. :)

Yeah, you and everyone else. It's completely backfired on em. It's too bad they made the good changes right before destroying the game. I really loved what I played of it and never had a dull moment. But in the bigger picture, there are a lot of new faces on the horizon and EQ2 (and WoW) are pretty much passed their heyday. At least D&D and LoTRO did F2P right.

I'm cautiously optimistic about DC Online. I like what I've seen in the videos, but it's getting a bit of a "single player mmo" vibe from those videos and that's making me go "hrmm".

And I'm not on the best of terms with the publisher. :-p Although, if they do vet rewards and tie it to the station account I'll be laughing my fool head off.

I'm with you on wanting to try DC and SW, both sound great.

Currently it's:

WoW for me -- six months were just prepaid in July so that's basically rotting until the expansion hits. Sigh so boring now.

Warhammer Online -- friend plays so I'm messing around with it, but don't see it being a long term game for me, will close when Cataclysm hits for sure.

And am about to resub to EVE Online. Figure give it another couple of months and see how I like it.

Really wish I could get into CoH and CO, own both, but I just can't seem to enjoy them. Not quite sure why, but I think that lack of a real looting system does hurt things.

As Mat said LoTRO is a good game. I have an account there, actually it's open as well but I'm not playing currently am just letting a buddy of mine use it when he wants. Might be worth checking out when the Free to play model is active.

DDO is another game I know I'd love to play if I had a static once or twice a week party to play with. It lends perfectly to a set group type situation.

Warhammer hasn't ever held any interest for me. Never played the original games, never been interested in miniatures, so yeah.

EVE Online also hasn't held much interest for me. Heh.

CoH is good. It does have some loot now, but it's never been a big focus. CO has a lot of loot and equipment, but it's about as deep as a saucer of milk.

I did play DDO when it was released. It wasn't worth the effort. Heh.
