I was so happy when I heard they took remainders out of the store I worked at. They have since brought some back, but no more huge tables of that crap to lug out front every day.
Now that's just a horribel thing to say- I collect autographed books, and I get a whole lot of 'em thanks to bargain/remainders. At very low prices. Nyeah!
Remainder skids also include all the "rejected returns." Chances are it had a microscopic ding in it that the publisher...
...on a really bad day...
...decided wasn't return-worthy. ;)
I like those. I buy a whole skid for my store, for what works out to $2.00 a book, and sell them at an inflated percentage which is still a steal... ahhh. :)
Okay, apparently I'm a capitalist pig. That doesn't bode well.
One time we got a copy of "Body for Life" on a remainder skid. This was when I was working at a store (four years ago). The fun part of that was the fact that the exact same book was sitting on our Best Seller shelf. :-p

That said, the whole "bookfair" thing drives me nuts.

We once got "Body for Life" on a remainder skid. While it was sitting up on our bestseller shelf. Very amusing.
